Glenn Dobbins Obituary

Glenn went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 9, 2025. Born in Calhan, Colorado, in 1925 to Clarence and Verda Dobbins, his life encompassed many historical events that greatly influenced his life. Struggles were common in his early years as the effects of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl Era, and WWII caused many hardships. In 1935, his family left their farm with crops destroyed by winds and drifting soil. Glenn endured other hardships, including the loss of three siblings and a home destroyed by fire. These events tested and honed his faith and strengthened his desire to succeed. The family eventually moved to the Cheney area, where Glenn graduated from Cheney High School in 1943. Following work on area farms, he married Flora Belle Leigh in 1946. They moved to Eugene, Oregon, to attend Northwest Christian College, where Glenn began studies to become a pastor. The desire to farm remained, and in 1948, they returned to the Cheney area. After years of working for other farmers and at other jobs, he fulfilled his dream of operating his "own" farm in 1957, where he resided for 68 years until his death. His desire to "grow" things included a family that welcomed four children. Steve, Ken, Karen, and Bryan were eventually joined by spouses Sue, Joyce, Edi, Cathy, and Carolyn. The family grew to include 8 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. All Glenn's kids are grateful for instilling in them a love of God and His Word. Glenn was active in many agricultural organizations and held many leadership positions. He was also active in several area churches, serving in various leadership roles. Glenn continued to farm, implementing new practices until 2011 when he became a full-time caregiver for Flora. He transitioned from farming to gardening and continued to garden even following the death of Flora in 2017, after 71 years of marriage. At the age of 98, Glenn was still working in his garden and processing his own produce. His generosity and desire to share with family, friends, and neighbors sometimes perhaps needed a warning "Here comes Glenn with more beets!" Glenn's generosity was evident throughout his entire life as he gave freely to those in need. A memorial service will be held on July 22 at 1:00 PM at Cheney Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Gospel Mission or Samaritan's Purse.

Steve and Merrijean Gadd

Steve and I (Merrijean) Gadd loved Glenn as if he was our Adopted dad, we always him and Flora Belle mom and dad, and they in return called us their adopted kids. Glenn and Flora Belle loved everyone with their whole heart. They loved their church and church friends at Shiloh Hills Fellowship. We were some of the benefactors of his flowers and produce. Glenn had a servants heart. He loved the missions and was always wanting to give to them, and encouraged others to do as well. Glenn was an amazing man, husband and father. He other passion was handing out the bulletins at church. (Shiloh Hills) every Sunday, He loved greeting the people as they came to the door, with hugs, the children loved him as well. He would stand there at the door no matter what the weather was in his western outfits and hat greeting. He was a dear saint of God, a true example of a servant.
