Archie "Arch" Shong, 84, of Fairchild, formerly of Augusta, passed away quietly on Monday morning, June 23, 2025, at Oakwood Health System in Altoona.
Archie was born on November 1, 1940, in Augusta, the son of Charles "Nick" and Esther (Mickelson) Shong. He was raised in Augusta alongside his seven siblings and graduated from Augusta High School in 1959.
Following high school, Archie proudly served in the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Augusta, and took a job at the Presto Ammunition Plant. He later played an instrumental role in the construction of the Jack Walters Building in Augusta and served as the manager for several years.
Archie eventually went into business for himself, owning and operating a satellite system installation service in the Augusta area.
In his later years, due to declining health, he moved to the Fairchild Apartments, and more recently had been a resident of Oakwood Health System in Altoona (Mayo Home Hospice).
Archie loved fishing and flying his own plane. He was also a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan.
Family and friendships meant the world to Archie. He will be remembered and sadly missed by so many, especially his siblings: Wally Shong of Alexander, North Carolina, Cora Marie Shafer of Eau Claire, Dave and Elaine Shong and Don and Judy DeShong all of Augusta, John Shong of Fairchild. He is also survived by nieces and nephews who loved him dearly: Dayna Shong of Roseville, MN, Dawna Shong Warren of Normal, IL; Charlie (Jody) Shong of Augusta, Paula (Brian) of North Carolina, Mary (Don) of Winter, WI, Gabe Shong of Strum, Scott (Kathy) of Clearwater, MN, Brian (Virginia) of Duncanville, TX, Jeri (Steve) Boetcher of Hastings, MN, Michael Shong of Hayward, Lori (Jimmy) Warlick of Rowlett, TX, Shari (Robyn) Trachsel of Fairchild, and Kristen (Jason) Seifert of Medford; and dear friends Tom Thur, Fairchild and Shirley and Rhonda Quick, Texas.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents, Nick (1974) and Esther (1987); his sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Paul Ponthan; brother and sister-in-law, Richard "Rich" and Kathy Shong, Garnet Shong; and nephew David Edward Shong.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Augusta, beginning at 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Pastor David Dahl. Military honors will follow services at the church.
