Richard (Dick) A. Paulson, age 87 of Clear Lake, WI, formerly of Colfax and Clayton, WI, passed away unexpectedly on November 7.
Dick was born on August 4, 1937 in Eau Claire, WI, the son of Oliver and Leona (Isaackson) Paulson. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1955 and enlisted in the Army National Guard. After serving in the Army National Guard, Dick went back to school and graduated from Vocational Technical School in Eau Claire, WI with a degree in sheet metal.
On August 12, 1961, Dick married the love of his life, JoAnn Iverson at Barum Lutheran Church in Elk Mound, WI. Together they made their home in Colfax, and raised two daughters, Patti and Jolene. Dick worked at Hovland Sheet Metal and then at Uniroyal Tire in Eau Claire for 24 years before the plant was closed. Dick then worked at American Phoenix before he retired to Moon Lake.
In 1999, Dick and JoAnn designed and built their dream house on Moon Lake in Clayton, WI. These were the best years of Dick's life, where he enjoyed life on the lake and fished, water skied, watched the beautiful sunsets, and hosted many family get togethers. Dick was an avid fisherman, hunter, and golfer, achieving his first hole-in-one at the young age of 80.
In many of his conversations (and he was known to strike up a conversation with anyone), Dick talked about his pride and love of his family. At 87, he could still run circles around those younger, still walking two miles a day in rain, snow, or sunshine and always greeted every stranger with a wave and a big smile. He was very proud of his strong Christian faith and he would do anything for anyone, anytime, with no questions asked.
Dick was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend and his family was the light of his life. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Clear Lake, WI; daughters, Patti Paulson Otto (Mark) of Hoffman Estates, IL and Jolene Jensen (Jim) of Colfax, WI; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Morgan and Nicolaus Jensen; brother, Merlin (Jill) Paulson of River Falls, WI; sister, Sylvia (Jerry) Rue of Osseo, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
Dad, we will always save you the last piece of lefse!
