Aldora Macary Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2025.
Formerly of Cape Coral FL & Prospect, CT, Aldora Figueredo Macary, age 94, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at Regional Hospice, Danbury, CT. Born on December 14, 1930, to Anthony & Zulmira Figueiredo, Aldora was a lifelong confidant, an accomplished businesswoman, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, grandma & great-grandma.

Aldora grew up in Prospect CT. Her academic journey began at Community School where she graduated as valedictorian then to Wilby High School in Waterbury. Instead of pursuing higher education, she chose to channel her energies into entrepreneurship. She opened her first business, Aldora's Variety Shop, at age 18 & after a few years took her earnings to travel abroad to gain new experiences. She then went on to work at Anchor Fasteners, where she formed lifelong friendships. Aldora found her forever love unexpectedly in life with Alfred (Farid) B. Macary & married June 2, 1962 at St Francis Xavier. They made their life & family in Prospect CT. She co-owned the Town Plaza on Rt 68 with her sister, as well as the Dairy Mart with her husband & became major contributors to their local community. After 24 years in business, they sold both the family business & their home to retire to Cape Coral Florida in 1989 where they found their paradise that gave them some reprieve from the tolls of aging. She was a member of the Franco/American French Choir traveling locally & abroad performing, dabbled in various arts & crafts & enjoyed creating beautiful cross-stitch art for family/friends. She had a passion for musicals, Broadway shows, movies, & loved dining out. Aldora was always ready to travel, always gave wise counsel, indulged in sweet treats like ice cream, chocolates & was a self-proclaimed "cokeaholic". After her husband, sister & brother in law's passing, it was time for her to come back to CT in 2018, making her home at Brandywine in Litchfield where she lived out her later years while becoming quite the embraced personality there. Aldora always enjoyed family celebrations, dinners out, casino trips, NYC trips, visiting the Cape, as well as quiet time with puzzles, coloring, & word finds. She so much enjoyed singing in Brandywine's choral group & participating in outings, activities & events there. Aldora was actively involved in several churches throughout her life. During time in Prospect, she was an active parishioner at St. Anthony's Church with her husband & family. In addition to her local parish, the family also celebrated many events at both Our Lady of Fatima & Our Lady of Lebanon in Waterbury, CT, allowing her children to also experience their Portuguese & Lebanese heritage community. In FL, the neighborhood church in Cape Coral was also St. Anthony's, which became their local parish for 30 years. For Aldora, Faith & Family were most important in her life, and she prayed for all of her loved ones every day! She always spoke straight from the hip with honesty, integrity & at times comical flare that was often unintended, which made her responses, comments & stories that much more amusing. You always knew where you stood with her as a mom, aunt, cousin, grandmama, and friend. Aldora's legacy of love, celebrating moments with her family & friends, honest counsel and wise advice, entrepreneurship, community involvement & her pure uniqueness will be cherished & remembered by all. Forever in our hearts, she will be missed by all who had the pleasure of experiencing her company or being part of her life.

Aldora is survived by her son, Richard Anthony Macary; daughter, Maureen (Macary) Garceau and son-in-law Steven Garceau; four grandsons, Michael, Jason & his wife Kenna, Owen, and Joshua; two great-grandsons, Gus & Bradley; a sister-in-law, Nelly Selem in Mexico, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends from around the world. Aldora was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Alfred B. Macary; her sister, Dolores LoCascio and several brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws around the globe.

A mass will be held on 8/23/25 @ 11 am at St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT followed by a Celebration of Life reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Aldora's memory.
