Dale Hawke Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 7, 2025.
Dale Allyn Hawke, 73, of Grafton, Ohio, passed away on April 2, 2025. Born on October 10, 1951, in Elyria.

A proud graduate of Midview High School in Grafton, Ohio, Dale distinguished himself early on as a gifted athlete. He earned All Conference First Team honors in basketball and was a starter on Midview's Lakeland Conference Championship team. His athletic prowess extended to the baseball diamond as well-he led the Middies to a Lakeland Baseball title as a sophomore while playing shortstop. His exceptional talent earned him a four-year scholarship to Marietta College for baseball, a testament to his dedication and skill.

Dale's love for sports continued throughout his life. He played in adult softball leagues and remained an enthusiastic supporter of Cleveland's professional teams-the Browns, Cavaliers, and Guardians (whom he affectionately continued to call the Indians). Golf was another passion of his; he was especially proud of achieving two hole-in-ones during his years on the course.

Beyond athletics, Dale had a deep interest in American history-particularly the Civil War era-and held great respect for veterans and their stories. He found joy in travel and cherished trips to Oglebay, Wheeling, and Walt Disney World.

Dale was known by those close to him as a man of integrity, loyalty, and quiet strength. Though soft-spoken, he possessed a sharp wit that would often catch listeners off guard with laughter. His unique sense of humor left lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to hear it. Above all else, Dale loved his family deeply and unconditionally.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Rebecca (Morse) Hawke; two sons: Matthew Hawke (Michelle), with three children; and Mark Hawke (Julie), also with three children. He is also survived by his brother Rich Hawke (Cathy-deceased); sister Barbara (Don) Gustovich; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Dale was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Nellie Lyons and Ellsworth and Ellen Hawke; his parents Richard and Betty Hawke; and sister-in-law Cathy (Chamberlain) Hawke.

May Dale's memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire those who carry forward his legacy of quiet strength and unwavering love.

There´s so much to say about Dale. We shared many things. Starting with our birthdays, the love for my sister, our children, families and the joy at our critters antics. Dale was a sweet, sweet man. Very soft-spoken very witty, and just a joy for me to be around. I will miss my big brother.
