Edman Schneider Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 30, 2025.
Edman R. Schneider Born on January 31, 1958, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side, on Sunday January 19, 2025 after a long battle with COPD. He is survived by his beloved bride of 40 years, Diane (nee Cross). Predeceased by his parents F.E. Schneider Jr and Gladys (nee Edman); his parents-in-law Hubert Cross and Mary (nee Lachcik); brother-in-law Jozef Cross. Remembered fondly by his siblings: Fremont IV (Renee), Donald, and Annmarie S. vanAltena Ph.D. (Tim). Brothers-in-law James (Tina) Cross and Michael (Becky) Cross. Remembered by his sister of choice Leslie Mack and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A 1976 graduate of Bloom High School and Kishwaukee College in DeKalb with an A.A.S. in Horticulture. He took pride in his early years working as a landscaper. In his later career, he worked for ELG Metals before retiring due to health issues.

He was a dedicated friend of Bill W and Dr. Bob for just shy of 40 years of "one day at a time." He leaves a legacy of never quitting, even when giving up was an easier option. Although sober for many years, he lived with childhood traumas and the damage from multi-generational alcoholism. He believed in "it works if you work it."

He enjoyed many past times: the outdoors, scroll saw work, fishing, gardening, yearly Renaissance Faire, and spending time with friends and family. He took pride in selling and gifting his scroll saw works. The delight he felt in knowing his pieces were sent to France for a religious mission; Peru with his aunt, a missionary nun; and to the chapel in an Indiana men's prison, were priceless. Having had no children, he cherished memories of time spent with his nieces and nephews. .

A memorial will be held in the Fellowship Hall at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5323 W. Margaret Street, Monee IL on Saturday, February 8. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m, immediately followed by an informal AA meeting. A luncheon of his favorite Mexican food will follow. His wife asks attendees to bring a piece of his woodwork to honor his passion for the craft

Donations can be made in memory to the AA Chicago Area Service Office, 180 North Wabash Avenue, Chicago IL, 60601; or The American Lung Association, 55 West Wacker, Suite 800, Chicago IL 60601

God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the Courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference. It works if you work it.

Uncle Ed was the only uncle I had that played the original PlayStation with me. We would play Tekken 2 for way too long at Granny and Grandpa´s house in Richton park. He always just seemed happy to be wherever he was, and that was always a great energy to be around. I love you Uncle Ed!

Little Fremont went into Ed and Dee´s farmhouse to find them . Ed and Dee were in the shower but that didn´t bother little Fremont he walked right in. They both were laughing so loud. Thinking about that day reminds me how much little Fremont loved his Uncle Ed and aunt Dee.

I remember Dee & Ed called my Mom to say they were coming over ( to ask me to be a bridesmaid in their wedding) and she said hurry to the store & get something from the bakery ( to have when they arrived) - of course she didn´t tell me why they were coming over. I also remember their wedding day & walking with Josef ( brother- groomsmen) - what an honor to be asked.
