learned today of Ed´s passing. a kind and gentle soul. wicked at ping pong tho. beat me every time at UIC in the early 70´s. i will miss you old friend.

It was during his tenure at the Chinese American Museum of Chicago that I was able to have my children's musical "Ye-Xian: The Chinese Cinderella" produced as a stage reading -- and this during COVID, no less! Thanks to Ed Jung who, with Irene Cualoping's encouragement, allowed CAMOC to be an underwriter for Fiery Seahorse Productions' production of YX: TCC -- bc without CAMOC's support, I wouldn't have been able to afford to have this reading in the first place. Blessings to the memory of Edward Jung and his work at the Chinese American Museum of Chicago..!

I met Ed for the first time a little over a year ago at the CAMOC. he was as kind and friendly as everyone says. It was as if we had been friends for years. It was a pleasure to have met him. May he Rest In Peace.

Such a good soul. May his memory be a blessing.

On May 10, 2021, I had the privilege of interviewing Edward Jung for my dissertation on Chicago´s Chinatown. We spoke for nearly four hours, and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. Edward shared many fascinating stories about Chinatown, including reflections on class dynamics and the experiences of those who were "fresh off the boat." I learned a great deal and was deeply grateful for his time and generosity in sharing his personal history.

During our conversation, Edward mentioned his long-standing desire to conduct an oral history of Chicago´s Chinatown - a project I hope to help continue one day. He also recommended I speak with Esther Wong, whom I was honored to interview before her passing.

In September 2024, I reached out to Edward about an internship opportunity at the Chinese American Museum of Chicago, and he kindly connected me with the current executive director. I feel truly honored to have spoken with him. His warmth, generosity, and support for young scholars left a lasting impact on me and my academic journey.

My deepest condolences to his family. I sincerely hope he rests in peace.

Ed was an active member of the Pickwick Owners Association where he owned a. Building for many years Prior to moving to
Chicago. I missed him when he left Knowing how sad it was when Wendy died , we kept in touch. He also was very kind to me when my husband died. Loved to make him laugh. I followed his dancing on Facebook. My condolences to his partner and family. Judy Hanlon

Of things past


This is a night of sadness.

Ed, !RichardDelilah! ,rebels,;,,,
Ed was a gentleman, mild mannered, funny and humorous, and always helpful. We got to know him because of his brother Richard, and Richard´s beloved Delilah. Together with 10 other friends, we are known as the rebels, and we had had deep connections with the Museum. All of us left, but he had the courage to join the Board, and believed that he could make the Museum a better place.

For the past two years, Ed has helped my friends to fulfill their dreams, and I am forever grateful to Ed´s kindness, and generosity!

In May of 2024, Ed helped and sponsored the stage reading of playwright, and director Patrick Lee´s play There´s Always Sunshine on the Stage. Ed was instrumental to bring two theater actors, directors, educators and stilt masters Carol Ho, and Lewis Choy from Hong Kong to host a stilt interactive workshop on July 13. Both cultural events were successful, and were ground breaking in the Chicago Chinese community.

We had a nice gathering with Ed in late May. As he was sipping chicken with mushroom soup, he told us that he passed the driving test, and had the approval from his doctor, and Ed finally gained his freedom to drive once again!
