George Yount Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 2, 2024.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, George Edward Yount, who left us on September 25, 2024, in La Crescenta, California. Born on May 7, 1939, at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, George lived a rich and fulfilling life that touched many. The love of George's life was his wife, Charlene (Belmonte), whom he met in December 1959. They married on June 1, 1963, in Los Angeles, beginning a partnership that would thrive for over six decades. George was the son of Mary Magdalene Bass Yount, who hailed from Oconee, Illinois, and George Edward Yount, a native of Wilmington, Ohio. Growing up in Los Angeles, he spent his early years at Gale Manor Apartments from 1939 to 1947. He attended Hobart Elementary School from 1944 to 1947, followed by Ramsey Military School in Santa Monica, where he not only excelled academically but also served as Cadet Major in the California Cadet Corps. He later graduated from Long Beach Poly High School, where he was active in the Delphi Fraternity and made lifelong friends. In April 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army, completing training at Fort Monmouth (NJ) and eventually serving in Germany as a Clerk Typist in the 3rd Missile Battalion, 7th Artillery. After completing his military service, George pursued a degree in accounting at Woodbury College in Los Angeles. He graduated and obtained his Certified Public Accountancy license in 1968, which he proudly held until 2021. He co-owned an accounting practice in Los Angeles until 1979, when he moved to Oxnard, California, where he became a sole proprietor CPA, working alongside Charlene. George was a devoted father to his two children, Gregory Yount and Susan Yount Apy. His dedication to family extended to his grandchildren and great-granddaughters. He celebrated their achievements with pride and found immense joy in being their father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was known affectionately as "Uncle George" by nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends, who were all touched by his warmth and generosity. George was known for his kindness, humor, and friendship. He was an avid reader and loved to engage in sometimes spirited conversations about politics and current events. As a devoted Los Angeles Rams fan, George cheered the team on each football season, hoping for a Super Bowl victory. George is survived by his loving wife, Charlene; his son Greg and daughter-in-law Rhonda (Lippman), along with their children Jessica (Yount) Evseff and her husband Philip and their daughter Ryan, Lindsey Yount, Nicholas Lippman, and Charlotte Lippman with her daughters Lily and Luna Mendez; and his daughter Susan and son-in-law Dean Apy, along with their children Alexandra, Mallory, Jackson, and Trevor Apy. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life well-lived. George's spirit will forever remain in our hearts. A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in George's name.

So very sad that George left us. I remember what a Disney fan he was, and how he generously gave our two young daughters Disney Figurines. Yes, he and I have had many "Spirited" conversations over politics.

We´ll miss you, George. May you Rest In Peace

My dear friend George,
Most of my favorite times over the past 50 years seemed to always include you
and Charlene. Can't think about any of our many adventures without smiling
and sometimes laughing out loud.
George, your heart was as big as the universe and you listened with it.
Thank you for all the advice, friendly debates and endless teasing you so
freely gave me and Jim.
Surely you two are catching up with glasses raised. Leaving you with that
thought til we meet again. Love, Mariee

60+ years ago George befriended me as I was busy just drifting thru life. He was a wonderful friend. Always willing to listen and engage in intelligent conversation. Especially while downing a cold one and waxing a shuffleboard at Jack's.

George will be missed by many and I am only 1 but missed he will be.

Heartfelt sympathy to Charlene.

Your heart soon will be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times. My family and I will always remember the good times we shared with George and Char. I have a picture of Ken and me, George and Shar on one of our cruises in my dining room. It will now be placed with my families pictures as we always considered you two family.
