Isaac Lissandrello Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 15, 2025.
Isaac David Lissandrello of Flanders, New Jersey, died on June 14, 2025, aged 79. David was born in Brooklyn, New York, the second son of Sally (nee Davidson) and John Lissandrello. He developed a love of reading and took in Trixie, his first beloved kitten of many to come.

At the NYC High School of Music and Art he enjoyed art classes, playing his saxophone and participating in some spectacular pranks.

He chose English literature to study at City College and eventually transitioned to

Philosophy, studying also at NY University in Buffalo and at Tulane.

In his work life he was a legal manager, first at AT&T and then at Lucent Technologies, specializing in toxic torts and asbestos litigations. But his real loves were literature, philosophy, history, politics, classical music and animals. He was known to abandon his car to rescue a lost dog or injured bird and he kept a box in the trunk for transporting animals if the need arose. He was arguably more comfortable with animals than people, but those who knew him enjoyed his wit, memory and knowledge of arcane facts.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and by his brother, Richard. He is survived by his partner Dale Githens and their cat Maxie Romeo and by his former wife, Pauline Hahn and daughter, Ariel. He is also survived by his cousins Liz Piken Murray (Charlie), Constance Brukin (Ted), Michael Brukin and Liz's son Adam Piken (Guannan and baby Ronen).

The family would like to thank all of the nurses and doctors that assisted David, but in particular Ian Sadler and Mark Stein at Columbia Presbyterian, Christopher Boni and Veejay Seelall at Summit Health, Dr David G. Miller, and Doctors Gleimer, Saez, Liu, Devine, Doshi, Soobryan and Ubhi at Hackettstown Medical Center. Many thanks to the wonderful nurses, aides, social worker and palliative care manager on 3North and 3South at Hackettstown, to Atlantic Visiting nurses and PT, and to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Alley Cat Allies, St Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison, NJ or to any charity of your choice.

David and I worked together in the Law Division at Lucent Technologies. David was a wonderful colleague. I will miss our annual exchanges of Christmas cards in which each of us caught the other up about our respective lives.

It was a privilege to spend time with David in the last few years. I will remember his gentle soul and love of animals. He was very fond of Winnie, my rescue Italian greyhound that I know brought him pleasure in our visits. He will hold a special place in my heart. Thinking of you Dale during this difficult time.

David, I hope I have a chance to know you. I said to Adam that we should go see David, your nice cousin who sent us wedding gift. Then we said, we should visit David, who send Ronen baby clothing. Then we said, we should bring Ronen to meet David someday when baby can tolerate travel better... Our life is so full of things we have to do and we do not spend enough time with our families, then we never get a chance to...
