Jane Fernandes Obituary
Her early years took her from Pennsylvania to Detroit, where she completed high school before entering the convent for about a year. Jane later pursued nursing at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland-a calling that reflected her lifelong commitment to caring for others. She dedicated much of her professional life to oncology nursing at Baptist Hospital in Kendall, Florida. Eventually seeking a shorter commute, she continued her nursing career at Weston Surgical Center until her retirement.
Jane's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was actively involved in her parish community at St. Mark's in Southwest Ranches, Florida, where she served as a CCD teacher and later as a Eucharistic minister. Her dedication to her faith was evident not only in her service but also in the grace and kindness with which she lived each day.
Jane was predeceased by her beloved spouse Peter Fernandes and sisters Genevieve and Marcy. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Beth and son-in-law Todd Steinberg; son Peter and daughter-in-law Jocelyn Fernandes; and her cherished grandchildren Mason, Gabrielle, and Mitchell. Jane found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren in Maryland-moments that brought light and laughter to her later years.
In addition to being a devoted mother and grandmother, Jane embraced the simple joys of life. She loved cooking and baking for family gatherings, tending to her garden with care, taking long walks that nourished both body and spirit, and reading with curiosity and reflection.
A memorial service celebrating Jane's life will be held on May 9, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, located at 114 St Mary's Place, Laurel, Maryland 20707.
Jane Fernandes leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, faith, and family. May her memory bring comfort to all who were blessed to know her.
