Delvin “Wayne” W. Vanosdall, 93, of Grand Island, NE died Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, NE with Pastor Tim Kilstrom officiating. Burial will follow in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-7 PM at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Heartland United Way or to and agency of choice. Online condolences may be left at www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
He was born on November 17, 1931, in Greeley County, NE to Theodore and Bertha (Gillham) Vanosdall. He grew up in Greeley County and Grand Island, NE and received his education from Grand Island Senior High School.
Wayne was united in marriage to Bernice Sullivan on July 22, 1951, in Grand Island, NE after which the couple remained in Grand Island. He owned and managed Vanosdall Sanitation for approximately 50 years. Wayne also built and managed the Vanosdall Softball fields; managed K&W Auto and had numerous rental properties in the city of Grand Island. Wayne was well known for his ability to understand and manage businesses.
He was an avid fisherman and could frequently be found on the boat, the dock, camping, or at the cabin to enjoy his favorite hobby. He also enjoyed playing poker and was acknowledged for winning several local tournaments as well as Las Vegas tournaments. Many remember him for his exciting stories about his poker games. Wayne loved to travel and spent many years going around the country with his wife Bernice before her death in 1989; and then traveling, working, and enjoying life with his dear friend and companion, Seretha “Mary” Cramer.
Wayne is survived by his son, Leroy Wayne Vanosdall of Grand Island, NE; daughters: Kathie (Ken) Hopkins of Plattsmouth, NE, Sandy Vanosdall of Grand Island, NE, and Pam Woodward of Gulfport, FL; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; parents: Theo and Bertha Vanosdall; stepmother, Helen (Brown) Vanosdall; brothers: John, Glenn, Leroy, Edward, and David; and sisters: Pattye Christensen, Marie Lassen, and Leah McKercher.
