Michael Dickson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 20, 2025.
Michael Timothy (Tim) Dickson, age 68, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday May 13, 2025. He was born in Jackson, Tennessee, but lived most of his childhood in Sacramento. Tim graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in Sacramento. Later he married and moved to Rio Linda.

Tim had several acres at his home in Rio Linda where he raised his two children, Joseph Dickson and Kelsey Dickson Rule. He started with building the kids a motocross track to ride around on, and later added all manner of pet stalls, bird aviaries, chicken coops, giant swings, and more.

Tim had started working with his dad, Southall Dickson, in construction, from a young age. By his early teens, Tim was quite proficient at running backhoes and other equipment. He then established a prosperous construction company, Tim Dickson Excavating. His experience led to John Deere providing him with a new backhoe for a year if he would consult with them on the equipment's performance and opportunities for improvements.

Tim married the love of his life MaryAnn Koons, in June of 2014. Tim and MaryAnn shared a love for chickens and expanded the property to include ever more elaborate chicken coops, which really should now be called the chicken palace, because these are chicken royalty! They also loved their many cats and had fancy towers and a special guest room just for them. They also built a beautiful koi pond with an impressive waterfall that produces a nice mountain stream soundtrack all around the property.

In the last year, Tim retired and devoted himself full-time to his home and property, his favorite place to be. MaryAnn continues to work in the Accounting industry, but Tim turned their place into a veritable Butchart Gardens of Rio Linda. It is lovely, full of flowers, citrus trees, vegetable gardens, and of course, chicken statuary. The motocross track is still a lot of fun for golf cart races.

Tim was known by all to be exceptionally fair-minded and kind, hardworking, and to have a great sense of humor. He was just fun to be around. He had a zest for living and enjoyed riding motorcycles, racing cars, racing fast boats, riding his side by side at Sand Mountain, Glamis and Oregon sand dunes, taking his chickens for walks, and keeping his property perfectly-manicured. One family joke was that Tim purchased Pledge in bulk so he could spit shine every surface.

Tim loved spending time with his family and is survived by his wife, MaryAnn Koons; his son Joseph (Amanda) Dickson; his daughter Kelsey (Raymond) Rule; grandson Tye (Sadie) Dickson; granddaughter Katie Dickson; grandsons Raymond and Hunter Rule; great grandson Beau Timothy Dickson; and sisters Susan Dickson and Jennifer (Jim) Wells. He was preceded in death by his parents Southall and Joanne Dickson.

I am saddened by the news of Tim's passing. Tim's and I have been close friends for over 40 years. In the construction industry he was the best backhoe driver I have ever met. We talked regularly about work, life, family, and our homes.
He just remodeled his bathroom and he call me for advise on want to do. He always talked his home and chickens. How much he loved his family was always in our conversation. His grandchildern and great grandchildren met the world to him. I loved calling him at 5-530 in the morning just to see if he was up and working, he was! Tim crossed my mind last week but I didn't call. I would of known then about his passing. Maryann we are out of town and cannot make his service. Please know he was loved by many and considered Tim one of my lifetime friends.
Rest my brother until we meet again on the other side. Love John Johnson

Timmy was my cousin. My Uncles son and such a great little boy, young man, and adult to be proud to be a part of my life and family. I loved him so much. He was always loving and kind and fun. His smile touched my heart and I always knew how much he cared. About all of us!!

One of my treasured memories was when he was about 5 years old. He looked up at me and said "when I grow up I want to marry you because I love you so much". I was so honored and smiled as I explained I was his cousin. He couldn't marry me. But I'd be in his life forever and I lived him too!!!

He is gone to soon. I wish I lived closer to share more time with this incredible human being.

Tim love and miss you sweetheart. He was shy when he was young. But not as an adult. He beamed personality.

Tim was a great high school friend. We hadn´t sen each other for probably 35 years and had just rekindled a friendship in 2021. Lately he was working on a job site I was running. We talked a lot about school friends and had a few laughs together. I will miss you my friend. Godspeed Tim

Tim and MaryAnn were great friends, I met Tim through my husband Kevin kraft, also MaryAnn had a Mustang and my husbands passion at the time. We use to go for car rides taking both cars to Poor Reds! Fun times! I met Tim boating at Folsom lake. He and Kevin had boats and speed in common! Great motocross rider, also he did some excavating for us when we moved in our house. We are going to miss you Tim. RIP

TIM AND THE GIANT BEAR
I remember a backpacking trip with Tim in the Yosemite backcountry when we were 17 or 18. He caught and fried a couple of trout for dinner, which tasted great. But that whole night we were up, banging on pots and pans to try to scare off this giant bear who smelled our dinner and wouldn´t go away empty-handed. We had our backpacks tied up in a tree, and the bear couldn´t reach them. But that didn´t keep him from trying for hours and hours, or so it seemed. We never saw him the second night, so presumably he found someone else to mess with.

Tim was a dear friend of over 50 years. We met racing motocross in 1974. He was on a backhoe with his dad when the building was built for my first business. We shared many great times over the years. He was a true friend. I will keep his laughter and memories until l join him for another great race in heaven.
Thanks Tim for all the great times. Fred
