Myrna Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 19, 2025.
Myrna Ellouise Miller, born on April 9, 1952, in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in Hartsdale, New York, at the age of 72, with family by her side. She will always be remembered as a kind, generous, and thoughtful soul. Myrna is survived by her beloved son, Edson, whom she affectionately called her "favorite." She was the fourth of seven siblings: Josette, Winnifred, Doris, Claudette, Grace, and Glen. In recent years, she cherished calling them regularly to share stories of their childhood. Myrna spent much of her early life in Jamaica, before attending Clarendon College, then later migrating to the United States in the late 1970s. She lived in Brooklyn, NY, before settling in Hartsdale, NY.

While in New York, Myrna attended Pace University, earning both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Information Science. She accomplished these academic milestones while working full-time and supporting her only son through college and graduate school-a testament to her resilience and dedication.

Throughout most of her career, she worked on Wall Street, developing a number of the early advanced trading systems for several of the large Wall Street banking firms. She became a trailblazer in her field, as one of the few women working in the industry. Myrna was a strong advocate for the advancement of women of all backgrounds and races. She served on the board of the Seidenberg School of Computer Science at Pace University and mentored aspiring young businesswomen, leaving a lasting impact on those she guided.

In her free time, Myrna pursued a variety of interests. She trained and rode horses and became an accomplished single-engine airplane pilot. She also volunteered at food shelters in White Plains, enjoyed long walks through the parks of Westchester County and the southern mountains of New York State, attended Broadway shows, and visited art museums. A crowning achievement of her life was fulfilling her dream of singing at Carnegie Music Hall, which she realized in 2022 by performing with the Schiller Institute NYC Chorus.

Myrna had a profound love for God, Christ, and family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

I remember Myrna for her passion working with seniors for the past ten years or so. She was the first to ask questions during coalition meetings. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

It was always lovely to break bread together. Some of my favorite memories are laughing over brunch with Myrna and Edson and my Mom. I really appreciated all of Myrna's advice, her kindness, and support of my family. She is missed.
