Nancy Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 30, 2025.
Bridgewater - Nancy Collins Adams of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 29, 2025. Predeceased by her husband, Merle, she is survived by her five children: Sue, David, Gregory, Bruce, and Todd; three daughters-in-law: Suzanne, MaryBeth, and Melissa; one son-in-law, Jay; and ten grandchildren: Lauren, Olivia, Ian, Jonathan, Kathleen, Julianne, Emily, Eric, Brian, and Kevin.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Nancy grew up in Wilton, Maine, where she excelled in academics and sports at Wilton Academy, and spent summer days swimming in Wilson Lake. She graduated second in her class from the University of Maine in 1955 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honor society. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Merle Adams, they relocated to NJ, where he pursued his Doctorate at Rutgers University.

In 1960, the couple settled in Bridgewater to raise their family. Nancy was actively involved in the PTO and The League of Women Voters. A woman of faith, she was a longstanding member of the Pluckemin Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon, Stephen Minister, and member of Koinonia. She also learned to play the harp supporting the Bedside Harp program at local healthcare facilities. Nancy earned her Master's in Early Childhood Development from Kean University and had a distinguished 19-year career as a child psychologist within the Bridgewater school system.

Nancy cherished her home state of Maine, spending numerous vacations at Webb Lake in Weld with family and friends. She was an avid reader and swimmer, enjoying Maine lakes and swimming in her pool. Nancy traveled the world, visiting nearly every continent. She enjoyed Tai Chi and her book club and was a devoted supporter of her children's and grandchildren's sports and activities. Holidays were particularly special, filled with love, laughter, Easter egg hunts, and Christmas stockings.

Nancy will be remembered for her love of family, her faith, and her remarkable ability to listen and provide comfort to others. A strong, thoughtful, and loving woman, she will be greatly missed.

A service will be held at The Pluckemin Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 10th, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Pluckemin Medical Equipment Ministry (https://ppcmem.org/support-us/financial-contributions) or Special Olympics.

Our life is less bright with the passing of our beloved Nancy. My favorite memory is of spending weekends with Merle and Nancy while in vet school. Just talking and laughing and eating nothing but vegetables! Rest well Nan! Say hi to Janet for us!!!! Love you!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Nancy last year. Reading her obituary just reinforced what a wonderful mother and grandmother she was, and how much she accomplished in her long happy life. May she rest in peace.

Dear friends. I am sorry for the loss of your mother. When I worked for your father I had the pleasure of meeting Nancy. She was sharp and direct and honest and kind. 92 years was a great run. May she rest in peace. Mark Robson.

Nancy was one of my favorite people. Nancy's genuine interest in others was always in evidence. She valued kindness, exhibiting it and recognizing it. She had a talent for making others feel good.
Nancy enjoyed a good play or lecture or book; flowers and birds at a park; her pool (which she built with her grandchildren in mind). Cherished memories of our times spent together will remain with me always.
Nancy, you will be missed!

So so sorry for your loss. I have so very many memories, especially when younger of time with your mother as well as father. Wish New Jersey wasn't so far away as visits in person as opposed to the phone calls these last few years would have been much better! She truly will be missed and was a wonderful lady; always so kind and compassionate and truly authentic. Always enjoyed my visits and conversations with her! I can only imagine how happy she is now being back with Uncle Merle! But those of us left behind feel the loss. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family.

The Morrissey-Ross hearts are broken. No doubt that this fine woman went straight to heaven, but Lord! She will be missed. The memories are countless. I was amazed by her skating abilities when I was a child! And, yes! She was a great listener. My son sees her having a swim as she is reunited with his grandmother-the best of friends they were! I see her raising 5 children, ever the calm one in the storm...and always amused by the antics of children-but always taking them seriously too. She was competitive too, even with puzzles! Oh, Nancy! Thank you for everything! May you rest in eternal peace!
