Rita (Horn) Stempert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 31, 2025.
Rita Mary (Horn) Stempert, 85, always surrounded by family, passed peacefully after a long bout with cancer on Tuesday, May 27th at her home in Denville, NJ. Born December 19th, 1939, in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Edward F. Horn and Madeline H (Monahan) Horn. Rita married Harold J. Stempert from Branchville, NJ, on September 11th, 1961. They resided in Denville, NJ, and were married for nearly 34 years. Rita remained in Denville after Harold's passing.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her father, Edward; her mother, Madeline; and her brothers, Edward and Arnold Horn. She is survived by her brother, Russel Horn, her sister Marilyn (Horn) Van Pelt, her sons Harold and

Daniel Stempert, and their wives, six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

Rita passed on to Glory, surrounded by family, and is now hand in hand with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, and those who left before her. The happy heavenly reunion that Rita often spoke of.

Rita loved the Lord and shared His light with everyone she encountered, right down to her last day in

her physical body. She spent her days reading and listening to the Bible, praying for family, friends, and people in general. Even if you met her casually, she would share Jesus' salvation message, love, and personal testimony of how He changed

her life. She loved her Savior and her family more than life itself.

Rita loved caring for the birds and squirrels that visited her yard, feeding, watering, and nurturing them. Her green thumb was evident as she kept her house plants thriving for decades. She loved listening to the wind as it whistled through the chimes on her porch entrances while watching the skies and the birds through the tall windows of her living and dining rooms. She truly loved all of God's creation. She found joy in life's most simple, yet beautiful moments.

A memorial service will be held for Rita at Full Life Christian Fellowship Church, 7 Brooklyn-Stanhope Rd, Stanhope, NJ, on July 12th at 11:00 AM. After the service, Rita will be laid to rest with her husband at the Branchville Cemetery, 9 Pines Road, Branchville, New Jersey.

Rita's favorite Scripture Verses:

Proverbs 3:5-8

[5]Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;

[6]In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

[7]Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.

[8]It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.

Psalms 139:14-17

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place,

when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;

all the days ordained for me were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, oh God!

How vast is the sum of them!

Zechariah 4:6

[6] So the angel answered and said to me:

"This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:

'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,'

Says the Lord of hosts.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18

[17]Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

[18]But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the

same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:10-13

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

11 Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the assaults of the devil.

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the

governors, and the princes of the darkness of this world, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly

places.

13 Therefore, take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done

all, to stand.

Rita, what can I say. You were such a wonderful person. With the most beautiful heart. You excepted everyone for who they were. You truly touched my heart and soul. And at a time when I needed you the most. You were always there. I´m pretty sure had you not been in my life. I wouldn´t know Jesus as my personal lord and savior today. You have touched so many lives, and brought countless people to the Lord. You were truly a soldier for our father. Thank you for being such a ray of sunshine to so many people. I m sure you will be missed by so many. But now it´s time to celebrate!!! It is time for you to get your just rewards. I´m sure you are now in heaven. Sitting next to our Lord and savior. You epitomized who and what a true Christian should be. I will always think of you fondly. Rest in Peace Rita. Love you always
