Rudeford "Rudy" Norman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 19, 2025.
Rudeford Monroe Norman, age 84, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 17, 1940, Rudy was the only child of Cullie Monroe Norman and Vernon Lorene Norman. He lived a full and adventurous life, defined by hard work, deep relationships, service to his country, and a spirited sense of humor.

Rudy graduated from Point Loma High School in 1958 and proudly joined the United States Marine Corps, serving four years. He later enlisted in the United States Army, where he was selected for Officer Candidate School and began a distinguished 20-year career. Rudy served honorably in Vietnam-earning awards for valor-and completed two tours in Germany. He retired with the rank of Major.

Following his military service, Rudy became the curator of the First Cavalry Division Museum in Fort Hood, Texas, a role he often described as his favorite. He also remained deeply involved in civic life in Killeen, Texas.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Sissy Norman of Round Rock, his three children, Nicole Assenato of Louisville, Kentucky, Rudeford M. Norman, Jr. (Cheryl) of Houston, Texas and Michelle Norman of Round Rock, Texas along with his three grandchildren, Katherine Norman, Louis Norman and Cody Tripp, and a great granddaughter, Ryan Victoria Norman.

Rudy was also blessed to have children and grandchildren from his blended and extended families. Each of whom brought him tremendous pride and joy. His legacy lives on in each of them-through his wit, his wisdom, and his unwavering love for family, country, and community.

A memorial service will be held at Central Texas Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas on Friday, May 23rd at11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels or a local food bank of their choosing.

Rudy will be remembered for his resilience, his laughter, and the lasting impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
