Timothy Spang Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 14, 2025.
Timothy (Tim) Russell Spang 82, of Lakewood Ranch passed away on September 11, 2025. Tim was born in Zanesville, Ohio on November 6, 1942 to Russel E. and Mary Quill Spang. He grew up in Coshocton, Ohio where he graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1960. He attended Ohio University before joining the Army reserves.

Tim had a life as colorful and exciting as his personality. His first and lifelong love was golf, and after owning two restaurants and a nightclub in Connecticut, he moved his family to Florida to pursue golf as a career. After a few years on the professional golf minitour, Tim became the Head Pro at Belmont Hills Country Club in St. Clairsville, OH. He later moved back to Florida and became a stockbroker and option trader, even traveling to Chicago to trade on the floor of the CBOE. He met his wife Elaine on a blind date in 1984 - one she tried to cancel but couldn't because Tim didn't have a telephone! They were married in 1985.

Tim returned to his love of golf and played at many great golf courses over the years from Pinehurst North Carolina to Chicago, IL, Dallas, Texas (where Mr. Cub - Ernie Banks - watched him practice and asked him who he was!), Ireland, California, Scottsdale, AZ and finally Lakewood Ranch, FL. Tim often had people watching him on the practice range and loved helping others become good golfers. He especially loved teaching kids.

Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Frances Spang, and brothers Thomas Spang and John Spang. He is survived by his wife Elaine of Lakewood Ranch, son Timothy Spang, Jr. of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, daughter Abigail (Danny) Schannep of N. Manchester, Indiana, sister Rita (James) Shaw of Ft. Myers, Florida, sister Barbara (Landers) Bonenberger of Wheeling, West Virginia, and five grandchildren.

The family asks that friends remember Tim with a gift in his name to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
