Marjorie Sutton Obituary

Marjorie (Oellermann) Sutton, 95, of Lynnwood, WA, entered peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord Jesus, while sleeping in the early morning hours of August 16, 2025.

Marjorie was born on June 14, 1930, in Glendive, MT, daughter of Ferdinand Oellermann and Almira Trulock. She was sister to 1 brother: Lester (Bonita), and 3 sisters: Dorothy, Harriet (Chuck Ward), and Marie (her "younger" twin) (Leslie Unruh). She had many fond memories of her early childhood growing up on her parents' farm, SW of Bloomfield, MT, especially the farm chores, the music and scripture memorization in their home, along with attending church regularly.

In 1937, after the dust bowl years, they moved to Glendive, MT, where Marj attended school, Sunday School, and VBS. It was at VBS where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior when she was 9, which she said was the most important decision of her life.

It was in high school where Marj really noticed Eugene ("Gene") Sutton and they became high school sweethearts, spending time together at youth group, church, hunting, and even roller skating. They were married on September 17, 1950, at South Valley Church in Eastern MT, and became full time missionaries for American Sunday School Union (changed to American Missionary Fellowship, then InFaith) from 1955-1975, with home base in Lewistown, MT. They were married for almost 62 years before Gene's passing in 2012. Marj & Gene traveled all over Montana to remote areas (with all 6 kids in toe) to preach to small groups that would otherwise not hear the Word. They continued to go to remote areas in the Lewistown area even after they retired, to preach & sometimes just to have a picnic with the locals they had grown to love. They managed Camp Lewtana for a number of years while raising their children outside Lewistown. Summer was always busy, but a fun time for the entire family.

Marj will always be remembered for sharing her faith & her resilience/perseverance in spite of various health struggles. She had the ability to juggle the many hats she had the privilege to wear in her various ministries, working part time & raising a daughter & 5 sons.

Marj had worked part time as a nurses aide in Lewistown, then later attended the nursing program in Miles City until becoming ill with cancer. Marj & Gene eventually moved to Lynnwood, WA to be near Brad (Shayli) & family.

Marj is survived by her daughter, Margene Gibbs, and 3 sons: Steve (Gloria), James (Elaine) and Brad (Shayli), daughter-in-law, Karen, as well as 13 grandchildren: Scott (Kristin), Shaun (Amy), Justin Gibbs, Rachel Otero (Dominic), Michael, Alicia Truax (Aaron), Barbara Hinson (Michael), Cassandra Juliano (Joe), David (Keli), Tanner (Sarah), Abrianna, Chase (Hannah), & Heidi Coulter Jenkins (David), a growing number of great grandkids, great-great grandkids & many nieces, nephews , cousins & dear friends in Montana & Lynnwood. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene, both parents, all of her siblings, her son Samuel, daughter-in-law Sheila, her son Jeffrey, & son-in-law Phillip Gibbs.

Her Graduation to Glory celebration will be held in Lewistown, MT at the City Park covered area on June 13th, 2026 (potluck) - - all friends & family are welcome! {exact time hasn't been determined, but likely around noon-ish}.

Memorial donations may be sent to a missionary of your choice or to Camp Lewtana of Lewistown, MT.
