Donald Hoeckelberg Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald (Don) Hoeckelberg, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Don passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at the age of 76, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Jerri Hoeckelberg; children, Megan (Brett) Leach, Scot (Yolanda) Morrow, Shalen Morrow, Tonjia (Brian) Watkins, Craig Welsh; grandchildren Bailey Morrow and Aiden Watkins; brother Ed (Linda) Hoeckelberg; and his cats who he loved dearly, Harley and Delilah.

Preceded in death by parents, Harry Cort Hoeckelberg (father), Edith Monzelle Hoeckelberg (mother), Mayme McCormick (sister), Harriet Upchurch (sister), and former wife, MaryLynn Hoeckelberg.

Born in Hammond, Indiana, on January 5, 1948, Don proudly served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War, dedicating himself to his country. His service paved the way for a career built on a passion for mechanics and aviation, eventually leading him to Sacramento, California, where he laid down roots.

Don's professional journey took him from Frontier Airlines, to Westates, but it was his dream job with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department's maintenance fleet that truly fulfilled him. His hands were always busy fixing anything that needed repair, earning him the admiration of his colleagues and friends. Don was a true problem-solver and, to many, a superhero in human form.

Outside of work, Don lived life to the fullest. He had a deep love for his wife, Jerri, his kids, and enjoyed an array of passions, including fast cars, boats, motorcycles, and of course, the Sacramento Kings. Don found joy in traveling to Cabo, taking road trips to see his friend, Scott in Southern California, and could always be found with a cat curled in his lap and a good glass of red wine.

A memorial service to celebrate Don's life will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.

He was a man who could fix anything, solve any problem, and always put his loved ones first. Don's legacy of love, laughter, and strength will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

As we remember Don, we take comfort in picturing him reunited with his loved ones who have passed before him-his parents, sisters, Marylynn, and his loyal dog, Rebel. Together, they are embracing him with love and warmth, just as he did for so many of us in life.

Rest in peace, Don. You are deeply missed.
