Kay Black Obituary

Kay LeAnn (Potts) Black

September 18, 1954 - July 11, 2025

Kay was born in Challis, Idaho to Stan and Joy Potts of Mackay, Idaho and Lamoille, Nevada respectively. She was five years old when her younger sister Robyn (Maxfield) was born, and eighteen months later their youngest sister Stani (Malmgren) was born.

Kay's youngest memory was driving the feed truck at four years old and she had many memories of haying and searching for arrowheads where she grew up in Clover Valley, south of Wells, Nevada.

She graduated from Wells High School in 1972. She attended a year at the University of Nevada Reno, then attended and finished Beauty School at Mr. Juan's College of Hair Design in Twin Falls, Idaho. She met and married Jerry David Black from Jerome, Idaho in the spring of 1975.

They welcomed their son Jay Stanley Black in 1975 and daughter Jenyfer Lea Black in 1977.

Kay and Jerry celebrated 50 years of marriage in March of 2025.

Kay was an exuberant soul that could make people feel special wherever she went. She started her beauty shop THE MANE WAY in Buhl, Idaho, 1986, and accomplished forty years of proprietorship in May of 2025.

She loved her clients, loved seeing their kids grow and hearing their stories.

She also loved her children and especially her grand babies. She was known as the "baby whisperer" because she could cut any small kid's hair.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Black of Buhl; father Stan Potts of Buhl; son Jay (Georgia) Black; daughter Jeny (Scotty) Black Pavkov; grandchildren, Jette Marie Black, Azelda Kole Black, Joe Black Pavkov and Jes Black Pavkov and great grandson, Mathew Black; Aunt, Marlene Huebert; and uncles, Charles Potts and Lloyd Blume Jr.; Sisters Robyn (Jerry) Maxfield and Stani (Chris) Malmgren; first cousins; Marci Huebert, Johanna Franck, Emily (Mukunda) Potts Loprinzi and Natalie (Erik) Potts Turner; nephew, Tim (Leah) Maxfield, niece, Addie (Kory) Kelzer; great nephew, Quentin Maxfield and great-nieces, Stella Maxfield, Genevieve & Mackenzie Kelzer.

Grandma Kay will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers please attend any sporting event at the Buhl Schools and rally around her beloved Buhl Indians.

We will hold a Celebration of Life this Friday, July 18, 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 1005 Poplar Street, Buhl, Idaho, 83316.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Kay's memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.com.

We will miss her. She could look at a really bad hair due, and say "I can fix that!" In loving memory of a helpful person, she was always willing to help out family and friends.
