Thomas McGarry Obituary

Thomas Anthony McGarry Sr., 85, passed away July 31, 2025 in Richland, Washington.
A native of Evanston, Illinois, son of the late Dr. John McGarry and Rachel Louisa McGarry Miller, Tom was raised in Waterloo and was a 1958 graduate from West High School. He graduated from the University of Iowa with degrees in Business and Math. Several years after entering the Air Force, he earned a Masters degree in Economics. Tom used his negotiation and business skills in his distinguished 27 year Air Force career, achieving the rank of Colonel, and after his military retirement as a DOE contract manager for Batelle. He was a devout Roman Catholic, 4th degree Knight of Columbus and served the church of Christ the King Parish in Richland, Washington.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Williams McGarry (Peggy) of the home; five children, Philip G. McGarry (Jennifer) of Pinellas Park, FL, Susan K. McGarry Hand (John) of Kennewick, WA, Rachel E. McGarry Fulton (Michael) of Daytona Beach, FL, Thomas A. McGarry Jr. (Wendy) of Rocklin, CA and Giles M. McGarry of Richland, WA; and nine grandchildren, Holly, Destiny, Dustin, Angela, Christian, Megan, Kayden, Mia, and Grant.
Mr. McGarry has four siblings: Ann McGarry Berendes (Paul), John McGarry (Kathy), Robert Miller IV (Robin) and Michael Miller (Frances).
Einan's at Sunset Gardens funeral home in Richland, Washington, is assisting the family and condolences may be expressed on their website.

I was a Classmate and friends of both Tom McGarry & Tom McGarvey at West High School in Waterloo, we all in the same Class, McGarry & I both graduated from Iowa U. McGarry & I lost track of each other after High School, so thankful
to read his Obituary, what a wonderful family. McGarvey passed away about 3 years ago. McGarry played golf a little on the HS golf with me, but he was better know for his Tennis. Condolences to all of Tom's family, this info sure helps me
have some closure about a wonder friend from long ago.

I knew Tom when he came to St Edwards School in Waterloo IA in about 1954. Interestingly enough in our small school there was Tom McGarvey in the same class. More interesting was both of them had lost their fathers as young boys.
