Catherine Blaney Obituary

Catherine (Kate) Ann Blaney, 87, of Hartford, passed away Monday evening, July 14, 2025, at Hospice House in Poland. She was born May 10, 1938 in Sharon, the daughter of Allan and Altha Keir. She was a graduate of Kent State University and taught in the area for several years. She married Lewis George Blaney on August 13, 1960. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2009. She was co-owner of Blaney Lumber and the Sharon Speedway with her husband. Kate was a devoted member of the Hartford Methodist Church, where she played the organ for many years and found joy in participating in the bell choir. For much of her life, weekends were spent at the races, cheering on her husband and sons. She proudly embraced her role as the biggest supporter and never missed a chance to be in their corner. Kate had an energetic spirit and a strong work ethic. She loved staying busy and especially enjoyed selling, furniture being her favorite. No matter where she went, she left a lasting impression. To know her was to love her. Her smile was infectious and her honesty direct. She was equal parts fierce and tender and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two sons, David (Lisa) Blaney of Concord, NC and Dale Blaney of Hartford; five grandchildren, Emma (Cale) Conley, Ryan (Gianna) Blaney, Erin Blaney, Leah (Hayden) Reeves and Ashley Carson; six great-grandchildren, Louie, Bodhi, Louden, Landon, Alayah and Jaeanna, with two more great-grandchildren on the way; and a brother, Tom (Sandy) Keir of Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation, P.O. Box 1875, Concord, NC 28026 or to the Hartford Methodist Church, P.O. Box 36, Hartford, OH 44424. Friends and relatives are invited to a time of visitation with the family at the Hartford Methodist Church on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from noon to 3 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Catherine Ann Blaney, please visit our floral store.

Sincere Sympathy to the entire Blaney family. Such good memories, my Dad ( Bruce Kimes) sponsored Gus Linder for years. We spent many nights @ the race tracks cheering on Gus and also Lou. And now, years later, watching the sons and grandson racing.... Such a legacy!
Also a couple years ago we enjoyed a night @ Sharon Speedway in a private box/booth with Kate. We talked about the old days. Such a kind and humorous person who will be missed by many!

Our deepest sympathy to your family.
We lived across from Sharon Speedway & remember her from the neighborhood, the Hartford Community Church and as my daughter (Dianne´s) kindergarten teacher.

I want to offer my sincere condolences to the Blaney families over the loss of Kate. She was a very gracious woman with a farm smile and friendly personality. It takes a very special lady to be so involved in Motor Sports like she was. She will be greatly missed.

Nancy always enjoyed conversations and exchanging mail with Kate. We were long time fans of all the Blaneys. So sorry for your loss. Would love to attend, but Nancy suffers from Dementia and makes travel impossible. Kate and Lou raised a fantastic family to always be proud of.
