Teresa Hickson Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Teresa Marie Hickson, the daughter of Mattie Edwards Hickson & Clifford Hickson Sr, who graced this world with her warmth and creativity from August 22, 1953, until July 10, 2025. Teresa journeyed peacefully home, embraced by the love of her family and friends, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
Born and raised in Youngstown, Teresa was an alumna of The Rayen School and a proud tiger! Often nurturing and caring for others, she found her calling as a devoted home manager, patiently empowering those whose capabilities were without limits despite physical challenges at Gateways to Better Living. Her heart knew no bounds, and her encouraging spirit not only impacted the lives of those she served but also inspired everyone fortunate enough to know her.
An artist at heart, Teresa, found joy in drawing and painting, creating vibrant pieces that reflected her love for life and her faith. Her affinity for all things Cleveland, especially the Browns Football and Indians/Guardians was without question or compromise. Her favorite interests were playing bingo and dressing for the occasion of every holiday.
Her faith became rooted at Jerusalem Baptist Church and her spirituality was genuine, infusing her life with a profound sense of purpose. She loved to attend and participate in worship and extended kindness and grace to all. Her unwavering spirit shone through her affection for church gatherings, and the uplifting sounds of gospel music that filled her life.
Teresa was closely connected to her family, who were her greatest treasures. She leaves behind her brothers Richard "Tony" and Charles Hickson, along with her cherished granddaughters, Barraya (Dashonti Sr.) Baker and Briaira Jackson, and the playful joy of her great-grandsons-The Baker Boyz! Embraced by love, she is also fondly loved by her nieces, Shereese, Jakia, Kendall, and Taunya, who carry on her vibrant spirit.
As Teresa passed into eternity, she was reunited with her beloved parents, adored son Barrington "Barry" Hickson, and cherished siblings Clifford Hickson Jr., Rev. Jimmie Hickson, David Hickson and Thelma Johnson, all who preceded her in death.
In celebration of Teresa's life, family and friends will gather on Monday, July 21, 202,5 in the chapel of the J. E. Washington Funeral Home, 2234 Glenwood Ave in Youngstown, at 10:00 AM for a public viewing.
A heartfelt reflection on her life will be shared by Min. Marcia Harmon-Walker, of Union Baptist Church, at 11:00 AM allowing all to unite in remembrance of a woman who brought light, love and laughter to those around her. In lieu of flowers, consider honoring the legacy of Teresa, as she lived, and perform an act of kindness towards someone in need.
Following the intimate gathering, Teresa will be laid to rest at the Belmont Park Cemetery where she will be among the ancestors. In our memories, Teresa will always be the colorful artist of her own story, making her mark on the canvas of our hearts with every brush of kindness and love.
In reflection, let us carry forward the lessons of compassion and joy that she so effortlessly shared freely. May she rest in eternal peace, forever remembered for her kind heart and graciousness.
At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Teresa Marie Hickson elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, 330.782.8500.
