Robert was born on January 23, 1935 in Prospect to Pearl and Gertrude Redmon. He graduated from Prospect High School.
Robert was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was honored with many commendations and awards during his military service. Including the US Air Medal Award and the Bronze Services Star Award for his 107 Vietnam Combat missions, during his multiple tours in Vietnam his unit was responsible for dropping flares so troops could see during combat. He also received Humanitarian service awards for his assistance with injured service members during his service and community assistance he provided during a blizzard while serving with the National Guard. Robert enlisted in the US Air Force at the age of 17 and later retired from the Army National Guard after over 20 years of dedicated service. Robert also served on the Richwood Village Council and he served as a member of the Democratic County Central Council. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 870, American Legion Post 605, and Lakeview Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Robert enjoyed helping others, and spent much of his free time fixing things for family and friends. When he was no longer able to do much physical labor he mowed many yards for those in need. He loved his family and spent many summer days taking his grandchildren to the lake to fish and see the ducks, a pastime they will cherish.
