ELEANOR BUTTERFIELD Obituary
ELEANOR BUTTERFIELD
05/26/1933 - 07/01/2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Eleanor Ellingson Butterfield, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Eleanor peacefully departed this world on July 1, 2025, at Foxwood Springs in Raymore, MO, at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity and devotion to her family.
Eleanor married Dick Butterfield on April 13, 1955, and celebrated sixty-two years of marriage until Dick's passing in 2017. In 1980 Eleanor (Ellie) started working in Contributor Relations for her brother-in-law Tom Butterfield at Butterfield Youth Services (BYS), homes for troubled and abused children. She loved her job, the outstanding staff and the many caring contributor friends which helped find hope for the children's futures. She worked at BYS until her retirement.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dick Butterfield, and her parents, Nell Hains Ellingson and Max Ellingson. Eleanor is survived by her two sons, Rick (April), of Lake Winnebago, MO, and Steve (Melanie) Booth-Butterfield of Pisgah Forest, NC, and her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brett (Meghan) Butterfield and Olivia, Hadley and Jack of Overland Park, KS and Evan (Carly) Butterfield and Brooks of Leawood, KS. She also leaves behind her brothers, Bill Ellingson of Liberty, MO, and Roger (Becky) Ellingson of Columbia, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Eleanor loved growing up in Marshall with many memories of family and friends. She enjoyed writing "Recollections of Ellie" in the Democrat News which shared many stories from her days of growing up in Marshall. She moved to Foxwood Springs in 2014 to be close to her family, and she enjoyed many friendships with her fellow residents. The family is grateful for the good care she received at Foxwood. She was a life-long Methodist and the family takes comfort in knowing her faith, belief in Jesus and His promise of a beautiful heaven as Jesus described in John 14: Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I going to prepare a place for you.
Eleanor loved being a mom not only to her sons Steve, and Rick but to many of their friends that would come around while they were growing up in North Aurora, Illinois, and later in Marshall. She loved being a grandmother and showing off Marshall life to her grandsons. She has a wonderful creative side and was always taking on new challenges in the world of writing, painting, quilts and other hobbies. For those that knew her realized that Ellie never shied away from speaking her mind.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. A private family graveside service will be held at Ridge Park Cemetery where she will be put to rest next to her husband Dick and many of her family at the family's graveside plot.
