Donald Surdich Obituary

Donald Ernest Surdich, 90 years passed away on Oct 14 2025. He had the nicknames of Super and Geech. Born at Mercy hospital on Oct 5 1935 to Jack and Leona Surdich. Survived by his companion Janie Schropp, daughter Michelle Henry of Turlock and son Brett Surdich of Merced. Don attended Galen Clark elementary school and was a drummer in the drum bugle corp. He graduated Merced Highs class of 1954. Founder of Merced Highs Marching 100. Member of Merced County bowling hall of fame. Member of General Motors Truck Hall of Fame. He served in the US Army in Korea in Custer's 7th Calvary. Life long member of Club Mercedes, 25 year member of the Elks Lodge #1240. Involved in men's fast pitch and women's slow pitch softball for many years. Deputy commissioner for Merced-Mariposa counties for the ASA Amateur Softball Association. Bowling columnist for the Merced Sun Star for many years. He played drums for the Partner's, a country rock band.

Earlier today

Love you pops. My favorite memory is when I was little and pops would buy me my "Mc hammer" pants and we would go to the old school car shows to show his hot rod, Chevy Coupe chop top, shaved door handles. Those were the days. I wish we could have remained that close in later years, but life happens. But I never stopped loving you. Rest in peace pops. You were one of a kind.

Hey DonMy Old Friend. You were one of my first buddies at Galen Clark. We were always in classes together starting at Galen Clark in 5th grade, then John Muir then MUHS. We Played a lot of sports together and cruised the drag for many many miles. We had a great ride. Love You Bro, Cal Penrod
