Gerald Vito Obituary
Gerald Paul (Jerry) Vito of Eveleth passed away on July 3, 2025, at Edgewood Vista in Hermantown.
He was born to Rocco and Frieda (Jenia) Vito in Eveleth on September 6, 1944. He graduated from Eveleth High School before attending Eveleth Junior College and the University of Minnesota-Duluth where he graduated with degrees in speech pathology and audiology.
Jerry taught for a year in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin before embarking on a 34-year career with the Gilbert and Eveleth-Gilbert School Districts. He also spent time as an assistant football and hockey coach at Gilbert High School.
Jerry retired in 2001 and spent many years as a substitute teacher. He also volunteered an incalculable amount of volunteer hours at The Salvation Army and derived great joy from this.
Jerry was dedicated to his Catholic faith. He enjoyed attending daily mass and singing in the Resurrection Catholic Church choir.
Jerry was incredibly proud of his 100% Italian heritage. He enjoyed making ravioli with his Vito cousins and hosting the annual Vito Family Reunion at his beloved cabin on St. Mary's Lake. Jerry loved his family above all.
He is survived by his son Chris, daughters Lori (Jamie) Sinning and Alison (Randy) Gray as well as grandsons Garrett (Kasey) Gray, Dylan (Mikayla Flatley) Gray, Brady Gray and granddaughter Madison (Kaden Lindberg) Sinning. Jerry is also survived by his great grandson Kullyn Lindberg, brother-in-law Jim LaFlair and the mother of his children Deborah Vito.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mona LaFlair.
The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the staff at Edgewood Vista for the excellent care they provided Jerry.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth. Fr. Charles Flynn and Fr. Eamon Boland will concelebrate. Visitation will take place an hour and a half before Mass at 9:30 a.m. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Salvation Army in Virginia, MN.
