Kirk Michael Okstad

A gathering of family and friends for Kirk Michael Okstad, 47, of Aurora, will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2025, at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Burial will be at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora.

Kirk died Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Aurora.

He was born January 19, 1978, in Virginia, Minn., to Richard and Julie (Hanson) Okstad. Kirk was a 1996 graduate of Mesabi East High School and later attended Eveleth Vo Tech studying as a millwright and maintenance mechanic.

Kirk traveled as a skilled tradesman working in many capacities in his field. He was an avid outdoorsman who hunted and especially enjoyed fishing with his children. Kirk will be remembered as a person who was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

Survivors include his children: Tyler (Kristen) Sandys of Coon Rapids and JulieAnna Sandys of Eveleth; parents, Richard and Julie Okstad of Aurora; siblings: Lars (Ariel) Okstad of Biwabik, Eric (Leah) Okstad of Pine Island and Leif (Rachel) Okstad of Aurora; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clayton and Ruby Okstad and Alfred and Isabelle Hanson and a special cousin, Michael Gaylord.
