Jerrold Lawrence Berg
Jerrold "Jerry" L. Berg, 83, of Eveleth, passed away peacefully in the presence of family at Essentia Health- St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth on Wednesday, April 10, 2025.
Jerry was born on September 19, 1941, to Carl and Margaret (Fogelberg) Berg in Eveleth, Minn. He was raised with strong values in West Eveleth and, in turn, chose to raise his own family there. He loved the community and its people. He never found a reason to be too far away for too long. Jerry proudly lived his life on the Iron Range.
Jerry knew a good thing when he saw one. He fell in love with and married his high school sweetheart, Patty. Determined to improve life for his family, he earned his GED, often putting in long hours after a full day's work to reach his goal. Most of his career was spent at U.S. Steel's MinnTac plant in Mountain Iron. During leaner times, he always found industrious ways to make ends meet.
He was a stalwart husband and father. He nurtured his son Bobby's natural independence, encouraged his son Stevie's interest in the trades, and supported his daughter Jennifer's pursuit of a nursing education. When Patty was diagnosed with cancer, he became the bedrock of her care. His dedication to family and friends was unwavering. It was simply how he lived.
In retirement, Jerry enjoyed a variety of outdoor pastimes: fishing, deer hunting with the boys, tearing around the neighborhood on his four-wheeler, and backyard gardening. Indoors, he took pride in making venison sausage from the season's bounty and cheering on Minnesota's sports teams: the Wild, the Twins, and above all, the Vikings.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia "Patty" (Curphy) Berg; his sister, Carol "Cookie" Lenzen; his grandson, Troy Berg; and his uncle, Robert "Bud" Fogelberg.
He is survived by his three children: Robert "Bobby" Berg; Steve Berg (Julie); and Jennifer (Berg) McAdam (Ryan); his grandchildren Jesse, Tessa, Taylor, and Tyler; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eveleth Cemetery. Following the ceremony, friends and family are invited to Margie's Roosevelt Bar in Eveleth to celebrate Jerry's life and raise a glass-as Jerry once did after a long day at the mines.
Arrangements were entrusted to Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home, Eveleth.
