Wilma Helen (McNeece) Mattingly, 73, of Metropolis, formerly of Belknap since February 1973, passed away Saturday morning, June 7, 2025, at 12:05 a.m. at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, Kentucky.
Wilma was born Feb. 24, 1952, in Jacksonville. She was the daughter of William H. McNeece and Bertha Eunice (McGee) McNeece.
On March 1, 1970, she was united in marriage to Donald Stanley Mattingly in Winchester, Illinois. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2017.
Wilma is survived by daughters, Terry Lynn Bullock of Simpson, Rhonda Jean Johnson of Clarksville, Tennessee, Sheila (James) Hughey of Carbondale, Elizabeth (Jason) Pritchett of Metropolis, Dawn (Lee Brown) Smith of Carbondale, and Amelia (Edward) Avilia of Metropolis; grandchildren, Brenda (David) Rushing of Stonefort, Bill (Nora) Bullock of Golconda, Brannon Bullock of Washington, Becky Johnson of Metropolis, Amanda Johnson of Carbondale, Eric (Lindsey) Johnson of Clarksville, Tennessee, Zachary Hughey of Carbondale, Coty (Chrissy) Fowler of Metropolis, Kortney Fowler of Metropolis, Alysha (Brandon) Stoos of Eldorado, Keesha (William) Lo of Carbondale, Christopher (Ashley) Smith of East Prairie, Missouri, Debora Loveless of Carbondale, Melissa Smith of Mayfield, Kimberley Brown of Metropolis, and Jessie Stevens of North Carolina; great grandchildren - Tonyi (John) Patton, Diedre (Jesse) Breese, Marcy Collison, Michael Bullock, Emily Johnson, Natalie Johnson, Holly Bullock, Brannon Bullock, Garrett Dupong, Levi Dupong, Sienna Reeder, Gracie Jo Reeder, A.J. Delacruz, Kameron Fowler, Hunter Fowler, Nikki Tuntland, Blake Tuntland, Easton Fowler, Myra Nicole Kimmins, Aniyeah Brown, Samuel Loveless, Samora Loveless, Iris Rose Smith, and Elias William Johnson; great-great grandchildren, Haley, Brooklyn, Lexi, Landon, Brantley, Sophia, Isabella, Addison, Anastasia, Benjamin, and Tobias; four sisters, Irma (Richard) Craig of Washington,, Gladys Janic of Jacksonville, Angela (Jim) Thompson of Olds, Iowa, and Shari (Irvin) Angelly of Jacksonville; four brothers, William H. McNeese of Winchester, Leland (Cyndi) McNeece of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Jess McNeece of Creve Coeur, and John McNeece of Karnak; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wilma was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Eugene Mattingly; a sister, Beverly Dawn McNeece; her grandparents, John and Laura (Trent) McGee and George & Myrtle (Howitt) McNeese; a grandson, Stephen Todd Smith; a great granddaughter, Omunique Kimmins; two sons-in-law, William Joseph Johnson and Orval Wayne Bullock; sister-in-law, Bonnie Brown; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Wilma was a 1970 graduate of Winchester (Illinois) High School. She was employed by Com-Pac, Inc in Carbondale, for 38 years, prior to her retirement. Wilma worked in the office performing clerical duties and was the purchase order agent.
Wilma enjoyed bowling, reading, and making handcrafted crochet items. She was also a devoted student of genealogy and family history.
Wilma was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Metropolis.
A service honoring the life of Wilma McNeece Mattingly will were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, June 11, 2025, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Christian Iwuagwu will officiate.
Burial was in the Kerley Cemetery in Flatwoods community.
Visitation was held prior to the service.
