Betty Maxine Downs of Perry, formerly of Burlington, died at the King's Gardens Campus of the Perry Lutheran Homes on Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, 2025, in Perry.
Born on Feb. 25, 1940, in Moran, Iowa, she was the daughter of John William and Blanche Dalton Anderson. She was married to John D. Levins Sr., and they later divorced. On Jan. 15, 1993, in Burlington, she married Donald Eugene Downs. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1995.
Betty was a retired production worker from General Electric in West Burlington. She attended Oak Street Baptist Church, was an avid reader, enjoyed walking, and watching TV.
Survivors include son, John Daniel (Michele) Levins Jr. of Burlington; daughter, Debora Patterson of Burlington; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, Jerimiah, Heather, and Roy; numerous great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one half-brother, John Anderson of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, Karen and Linda, granddaughter, Sarah, one great-great-granddaughter, one brother Bob, and one sister Marge White.
The funeral service for Betty Maxine Downs will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Lunning Chapel.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In memory of Betty a memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
