Betty Stockton Obituary

Betty Jean Sills Stockton, 94, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed from this life after a brief illness, into the loving arms of her heavenly father on Monday, May 26, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Nov. 15, 1930, to Paul and Leona Sills (Burrows) in Montrose. She had two younger siblings: Raymond Paul Sills and Ruth Ann Sills Kirchner. She met Donald Stockton from Argyle, during her high school years. They were married on Feb. 5, 1949, and enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage together. They had three children: James, Nancy and Robert during their years in Des Moines. The family moved many times during their early years due to Don's job with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company including: Burlington, Des Moines on three separate occasions; Spencer, Omaha, Neb.; Minneapolis, Minn.; and Fargo, N.D. and a retirement home in Rio Verde, Ariz.

Betty was an accomplished homemaker, a great cook, seamstress, wonderful hostess for family and friends. She spent a short time selling real estate, but her greatest accomplishment and greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with them as well as attending their activities. Betty loved to entertain and always made sure everyone was well taken care of, so much so that even in her final hours, she was worried about those who had gathered and had a place to sit. Betty was also an active and lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church, serving as women's leader in many of the congregations she attended, served in the priesthood and held the office of priest in the Community of Christ Church.

Betty is survived by her three children: James (Donnaree) Stockton, Nancy Piedimonte Bond and Robert Stockton, eight grandchildren: Michael (Anna) Stockton, Patrick (Stacie) Stockton, Elisha Stockton, Corey (Sarah) Stockton, Kelsey (Andrew) Stockton-Ortiz, Christopher Piedimonte, Kyle Piedimonte, Katie (Ryan Jones) Piedimonte; nine great-grandchildren: Meah Piedimonte, Nolan Piedimonte, Willow Piedimonte, Watson Piedimonte, Palmer Piedimonte, Sonora Piedimonte, Tanner Stockton, Mila Jones and Maren Jones. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Leona Sills; husband of 60 years: Donald; brother: Raymond Sills; sister: Ruth Kirchner and grandson: James Stockton.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson with Carla Stockton officiating.

Burial will be at Montrose Cemetery, Montrose.
