Michael Peterson Obituary

Michael Scott Peterson, age 66, of the Relief/Little Creek communities, received his ultimate healing on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Memorial Mission Hospital, with his loving wife by his side.
Mike was born on Oct. 12, 1958, to Yvonne Barnett Peterson of Green Mountain and the late J.E. Peterson. Along with his dad, he was preceded in death by a brother, Matthew Dale Peterson; paternal grandparents, Clayton and Lassie Peterson; maternal grandparents, Arkie and Rhea Barnett; and brother-in-law, Royce Peterson. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Junior Ray and Ethel Fender Bradford, as well as a brother-in-law, Patrick Bradford.
Mike had recently retired from Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation, where he worked in maintenance for 32 years. He also worked for General Motors for 10 and a half years while living in Michigan. Mike was a simple man who enjoyed studying his Bible, spending time with family and friends - especially his granddaughter - Chloue, seeing God's beauty in nature, metal detecting/treasure hunting, fishing, and collecting coins, to name a few. Mike attended Upper Pigeon Roost Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides his mom, Mike is also survived by his wife, Crystal Bradford Peterson, who was the love of his life; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Peterson Baker (Jason) of Spruce Pine; a bonus daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, Mikayla Hughes Beysher (Austin), and Chloue Rayanne Beysher of Leicester, whom he loved very much; a sister, Beverly Peterson of Green Mountain; nephew, Jason Flick of Grand Blanc, Mich.; nieces Courtney Kemp and Stacy Colbaugh (Jon) of Knoxville, Tenn., Ashley Biddix (Steven) of Spruce Pine, and Karissa Peterson (Timmy Johnson) of Green Mountain. He is also survived by two great-nephews, Hayden and Jaylan; two great-nieces, Addison and Paisley, and many extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, July 9), in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Pastor Dustin Sturgill will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fender Cemetery at Bee Log with the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
