Modesto, California - Joseph Paxia, 86, passed away on June 30, 2025, in Modesto, California.

A devoted Catholic, Joseph worshiped at St. Joseph's Church in Modesto. He was a man of strong faith and traditional values, believing deeply in God, family, and country. Joseph worked at the same job for nearly 40 years, earning the respect of colleagues and embodying a steadfast work ethic that defined much of his life. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Carol Ann Paxia. The couple met at their place of employment-an encounter that blossomed into a lasting bond. They made their home in Modesto from the beginning of their marriage. He is also survived by his stepchildren Cynthia Hollaway and Michael A. Wedge; step son-in-law Joe Hollaway; step-grandson Michael C. Wedge; and his cherished dog Bella. Joseph's surviving siblings include Michelle Merciadis, Leo S. Paxia, and Josephine Ambalong. He was preceded in death by his brothers Vito Paxia, Tommy Paxia, Frank Paxia, and Jimmy Paxia; his mother Antonina Paxia (Fontana), who passed in 1994; and his father Calogero Paxia, who passed in 1991. The Paxia family immigrated to America from Sicily in the early 1950s after World War II in search of greater opportunity. Joseph had a lifelong love for baseball and football. He especially enjoyed friendly wagers with his brother Leo - each rooting for opposing teams with spirited rivalry. Salas Brothers Rosary Tuesday, July 15th from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Service starts next day at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Salas Brothers. After services, proceed to cemetery on Scenic Drive.
