Kay Watts Obituary

Sister Kay Watts, 91, died June 2, 2025, at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls, Minn.

Sister Kay was born on May 2, 1934, in Hopkins, Minn. She was the middle child of five children born to the late Earl and Emily (Peaslee) Watts. She was accepted as a Franciscan Sister of Little Falls, Minnesota, on July 31, 1956. She made her first profession of vows on August 12, 1958, and final vows on August 12, 1961. She was a Franciscan Sister for 68 years.

Sister Kay studied dietetics at the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul, Minn., and St. Cloud Vocational School, St. Cloud, Minn.

Sister Kay mainly ministered as a cook, baker, food service supervisor, and kitchen and dietary manager. She served in Alexandria, St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Wayzata, Prior Lake and Little Falls. She also volunteered at Catholic Charities in St. Cloud for eight years.

In her quiet and gentle manner, Sister Kay has cooked many a meal, baked many a loaf of bread, and hired, trained and oversaw dozens of workers who labored with her in food service. Always in a spirit of hospitality, the food she prepared gave pleasure to the palate and delight to the eye of those who enjoyed it.

Her brothers Edward, Earl, Robert and Lawrence preceded Sister Kay in death.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and her Franciscan Community.

Mass of Christian Burial held at St. Francis Convent on Saturday, June 7, at 2 p.m. Visitation for friends held at St. Francis Convent on Friday, June 6, from 4-7:30 p.m., with a Franciscan prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral on Saturday at 2 p.m. Mass livestreamed on YouTube: youtube.com/@FSLFvideos.
