Louis Holzner Obituary

Louis Holzner, 93, a longtime resident of Newtown, CT passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his caring aide, Irina, and family on July 1, 2025.

Lou was born in 1931 in the Bronx, NY to Alois and Magdalena (nee Kain) Holzner. He was an excellent baseball player in his youth and was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. He had season tickets for over 40 years and enjoyed many games with his family, friends, and business associates, frequently followed by dinner on Arthur Avenue. His favorite player was Lou Gehrig because they were both first basemen.

Lou was a successful electrical contractor in the region and was in business for over 60 years. His focus was on industrial, commercial, and public construction. He was an active member of the Newtown Rotary Club, where he had been president and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award, the highest recognition a Rotary Club can give. Lou also loved to read, mostly history, non-fiction, and baseball.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Claire, and their son, Mark. Lou was the father of Christopher (Lynn), Janice Fields (Jim), and Mark (Leslie) and brother of Anne Treadwell (Richard). He left numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lou and Claire were avid travelers and especially enjoyed England and Germany. Germany was a particular favorite because Lou's parents were German immigrants. He loved spending time with his wife and their children and grandchildren at their vacation home. A favorite activity of Lou's was to go out in the mornings and bring back coffee and donuts for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Newtown, CT or Regional Hospice, Danbury, CT.
