Mr. Paul Bryan Black passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017. An educator, wisecracker, friend-to-strangers, husband, father, grandfather, great -grandfather, and baby brother to five siblings, he was born June 21, 1934 to Benjamin Black and Mae Black in Greenwood, SC.
Paul's father was a Methodist minister who traveled the state and taught him devotion to the Lord, gentleness, compassion and forgiveness. All were assets that served Paul well in his pursuit of a career in education and in his desire to teach and help others. After graduating high school in the Parker District in 1952, he received a bachelor's degree in business from Wofford in 1956, a master's degree in education from Furman in 1968, and a M.Ed. from Clemson University in 1975.
Paul was coach of the basketball and football teams at D.R. Hill Junior High School in Duncan from 1956-66, principal of Reidville Elementary from 1966-1976 and of Duncan Elementary from 1976-1994. He was beloved by the communities he served for his generosity and dedication.
For his commitment to coaching, Paul was voted into the Byrnes High School Hall of Fame. After retiring from education, he embarked on a career as an insurance salesman with Colonial Life.
Paul's death is softened by his profound faith in the Lord and the knowledge that he rests peacefully in heaven, where, as his wife Linda says, "He will be an asset."
He is survived by Linda Keller Black (his wife of 61 years), sons Frederick Bryan Black (Betty Anne) and Benjamin Keller Black (Sandy), grandchildren Virginia Anne Black, Kathryn Black Moore (Will), Paul Bryan Black II, and Ann Keller Black, and great-granddaughter Charlotte Ann Moore. He is predeceased by two sisters: Evangeline Black Blackwell and Jean Black Langston and is survived by brother John Black and sister Mary Black Moorer.
A memorial service officiated by the Rev. David Surrett and Pastor, Clay Faulk, will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at 12:00 p.m., at Lee Road United Methodist Church followed by visitation. Graveside Service will be held prior to memorial service at Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Moore, SC at 10:00 am.

My mother Gladys Anderson taught 5th grade at Reidville Elementary, and she loved Mr. Paul Black. He was such a comfort and support to her when my sister Bennie Sue was killed in a wreck in 1972. Our sympathy and prayers are with the family. Mom retired about the time Mr. Black left Reidville.
