Robert Chumley Obituary

Robert "Bob" Paul Chumley
Jacksonville - Robert "Bob" Paul Chumley, 79, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born June 30, 1946, in Jacksonville, the son of Paul and Clara Ridder Chumley. Bob married JoAnn Johnson on October 23, 1971, at Church of the Visitation in Alexander, and she survives.
Bob is also survived by three children, Brian (Stacey) Chumley, Jennifer (Mike) Kafer, and Mike (Dakota) Chumley, all of Jacksonville; and eight grandchildren, Hunter, Harrison, and Hannah Chumley, Evelyn Chumley, Austin and Alli Kafer, and Maddie and Wade Chumley.
He was preceded in death by one son, Matthew Chumley. He is also survived by his siblings, Paulette Carochi of San Antonio, Texas, and Rose (Terry) Fernandes, Ross (Ruth) Chumley, Terry (Barb) Chumley, and Tracey (Lonnie) Wilcox, all of Jacksonville; his in-laws, Annette (deceased, Mark) Pignon of Auburn, Yvonne (Cliff) Nolte of Golden Eagle, and Richard (Sharon) Johnson of Alexander, and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law Robert A. Johnson (surviving wife Linda of rural Alexander), and sisters-in-law Virginia "Ginny" Roberts and Marilyn Davin (surviving husband Pat of Pleasant Plains).
Bob graduated from Routt High School in 1964. He enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany prior to serving during the Vietnam War from 1966-69. A skilled carpenter, Bob worked construction with Ted Donovan for several years before founding Chumley Brothers Builders with his brother Ross. Bob later worked for several years with the City of Jacksonville Parks and Lakes. He enjoyed starting his day with his Hardee's breakfast group.
Bob was a lifelong member of Church of Our Saviour and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He also held memberships in the Jacksonville Elks Club, Moose Lodge, and Art Association of Jacksonville. Bob was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Routt Rockets and enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing.
More than anything, Bob loved his family. Over the years he spent countless hours watching his children's and, later, grandchildren's sporting events and dance recitals. Every moment spent with his family was cherished.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. A prayer service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Monday at Williamson Funeral Home, after which the family will meet friends until 7 p.m. A Rosary service will be conducted at the conclusion of the visitation. Joann , I am so happy Bob got to see all of you together for his birthday. That is a blessing. I enjoyed his cake u shared with me.
As I read his obituary, I thought what a handsome , Christian, friendly and loving guy he was.
I will miss saying "HI BOB" . His response was HOW ARE YOU ?
He waved to me from his room just Tuesday evening when I come around the corner.
I will miss you too, JoAnn. We met with conversation the day he came into the home.
He is at peace now in his new HEAVENLY HOME.. GOD BLESS .
