Frances Borio Obituary

Frances E. Borio
Born: May 20, 1941 in Ottawa, IL
Died: July 8, 2025 in Peru, IL
Frances E. Borio, 84 of Peru died July 8, 2025 in Manor Court of Peru. With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Fran, a devoted wife, mother,
grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, and friend, whose life was defined by generosity,
love, and quiet strength.
Fran had a lifelong passion for learning and sharing knowledge. As an educator, she received
multiple Teacher of the Year awards and was known for her dedication and care in the
classroom. She touched countless young lives with her warmth, patience, and belief in every
student's potential.
Her passion for service extended beyond the classroom. Fran volunteered at the bookstore at
Starved Rock State Park for over 20 years, giving more than 6,000 hours of her time. In 2005,
just three years into their volunteering journey, she and her beloved husband Lou were honored
as Volunteers of the Year for the entire state of Illinois-a recognition that spoke to their
commitment and generous spirit.
Fran's greatest joy came from her family. Known lovingly as Nonna, she cherished time with her
children and grandchildren above all. She taught each of them how to play 3-13, a cherished
card game that became a family tradition. She was always there-cheering from the stands at
ball games, attending school activities, and offering a listening ear or warm hug whenever
needed.
A wonderful cook, a loving presence, and a steady source of encouragement, Fran built a life
centered on love, service, and laughter. Her home was a place of comfort and joy, where
everyone felt welcome and valued.
Fran was deeply loved by all who knew her, and her legacy will live on through the many lives
she touched. Her family will continue to honor her memory with the same compassion, strength,
and grace that she showed every day.
She will be missed dearly but remembered always-with love, admiration, and endless
gratitude.
Per her wishes cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services or visitation. Private burial will be in Peru City Cemetery. Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby is in charge of arrangements.
Frances was born May 20, 1941 in Ottawa to Frank and Verna (O'Brien) Bernardoni. She married Louis Borio August 12, 1961 in St. Mary's Church, Naplate.
She was a 4th grade teacher at Waltham School. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Peru and the Starved Rock Foundation.
She is survived by her husband Louis of Peru, a son Richard (Lynn) Borio of Oglesby, 2 daughters; Cari (Todd) Horack of Chillicothe and Wendy (Rick) Christmann of Oglesby, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers; Frank (Michelle) Bernardoni of Colorado and James (Jeri) Bernardoni of Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
