Agnes LaRue Harris, 87, of Lake Jackson, peacefully entered eternal rest on July 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 24, 1937, Agnes dedicated her life to caring for others both in her community and her family who loved her so much and will forever hold her caring memory dear to their hearts.
She graduated from Brazosport Community College with a BSRN and worked for Brazosport Hospital for 30 years. After retiring, she continued to devote her time to her community by volunteering for Hospice Care of Brazoria County. Agnes was an active committee member of the Christ Lutheran Church, where she generously raised money for various local organizations like the Pregnancy Health Center and Live Oak Clinic by baking cookies for the church to sell at the pumpkin patch. One of her favorite hobbies was making quilted blankets for those she loved, each one uniquely designed. Agnes was also a collector of over 400 cookie jars. Her son, Bobby, mentioned that he would not build any more shelves in the house thinking that would stop the family from buying them for her, but the cookie jars continued to be gifts she cherished, especially her favorite one of John Wayne. Her family grew so large that they had to rent the church gym for Easter and Christmas gatherings the past few years. She was so proud to have such a large family. Someone once asked her how many grandchildren she had, and at that time it was so many she could not recall, so she went home and counted each one. The next time someone asked her how many grandchildren, including great and great-great, she knew the answer (it is 44 in total).
Agnes was preceded in death by her mother, Sally Ann Williams; father, Jack Williams; husband, Claude Harris; half-sister, Bonnie Teater; and daughters, Dorothy Krug and Rebecca Taylor.
She is survived by her son, Robert Earl Harris, Sr. (Debbie); her grandchildren, Robin Taylor (Ron), Veronica Alesna, Robert Harris Jr. (Noemi), Greg Krug, and Steve Krug, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Lauren Gallegos (Mark), Julia Gonzalez (Adrian), James Alesna, Avary Lewis, Jr., Kameron Lewis (Lilian), Torey Lewis (Kia), Noah Mack, Dave, CJ, Josiah, Kasmine, and Haley Johnson, Mason Harris (Ashlynn), Elisa Harris (Matthew), Kali Harris (Manuel), Nellie Perez (Richard), and Isaac Newell; her great-great-grandchildren, Emory Gallegos, Ezra Gallegos, Genevieve Gonzalez, Valentina Gonzalez, Lia Lewis, Torey Lewis, Jr., Zane, Levi, Lane Lewis, Layden Adams, Blaire Lewis, Joey Cope, Jonathan Arriaga Jr., Liam Martinez, and Alexander Garza; her sister, Esther Braden; niece, Charlotte; great-niece, Sarah Escobedo; and great-nephew, Gabe Villarreal.
Her indelible dedication of service and love will forever be cherished by her family and friends. Her generosity and kindness were felt by everyone who knew her. Some favorite heartfelt personal prayers and reflections that conveyed her deep sense of faith and devotion were: "Greater God, I confess my many selfish, daily sins, and I now ask your loving forgiveness"; "Holy God, let me see your glory where I am"; "Help me to peel away my fears and prejudices, Lord, so I can see what you see"; and "Lord, thanks for your patience, love, and forgiveness. Help me share that with others."
