Funeral services for Albert Crawford "Bud" Miller, January 2, 1929 - July 13, 2025, 96, of Jonesville, LA will be held at Young's Funeral Home in Jonesville on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 2PM. Interment will follow at Heard Cemetery in Manifest, LA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12noon until service time at 2PM.
Uncle Bud was born in Jonesville to Julia Tinsley Miller and Frank Miller. He served in the U.S. Army in the early 50s. He was a commercial fisherman until he was no longer able to work. He had many loyal customers and provided fresh fish to his family and many of his friends.
He spent his entire life on Little River and was happiest in his boat running nets and webbing. He taught the skills of his fishing to his nephews from the oldest to the youngest. He spent many hours knitting his own 2" webbing. He always had a fish story and funny tale about game wardens who tried to catch him and sometimes did.
He was one of eight children who have pre-deceased Uncle Bud. Brothers Howard, Phillip, Johnny, Frank; Sisters Mabel Aycock, Marie Windham, Mildred Miller.
He never had children but had many, many stray 4 legged children and hauled them in his car. He fed his animals before he ate himself and kept them cool in their air conditioned bedroom. He lived a simple life on his river and never asked for more. But, he was always generous to anyone in need and wanted no recognition for his help.
Left to remember Uncle Bud are several nieces and nephews along with long time friends and neighbors the Smith boys and Larry McHenry. These friends kept an eye out for him and checked on him daily.
He spent his last nine years in LaSalle Nursing Home being cared for and loved by his many devoted "girls". He loved them as much as they loved him. The entire staff became his second familv. All Saints Hospice has overseen his medical care for the last few months.
He was a character and marched to a different drummer all his life. Uncle Bud was the last of his generation and will always be lovingly remembered by his family and those who knew him best.
