Her Legacy Alice Bernice Gill-LeMaitre, "Bernice", 94, passed away May 7, 2025. She was born on October 4, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan to Russell Bell and Agnas (Rolls) Bell. Bernice is a Detroit, Cooley High School graduate. She will be remembered for her strong faith and deep love for her family and bigger than life personality. Bernice had an adventurous spirit and lived her life to the fullest. She traveled the world and had amazing experiences, such as zip lining in Alaska and diving in the coral reefs of Australia. She was the guiding force and motivator of her children and everyone she touched. She taught her children to be strong and independent as well as possess a strong work ethic; "life is a choice", she would always say. Bernice had an incredible energy; she worked hard and played hard. She made friends wherever she went leaving people amazed at her ability to make everyone feel loved and totally at ease. She loved to play cards and had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Bernice will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Her Family Bernice will be missed by her children, Rodney (Peggy) Gill, Sandra Gill-Martinez (Enrique Martinez), Debbie Gill, Bryan (Patti) Gill, Terry (Karen) Gill, Karen Gill-Myers (Christopher Myers), Dr. Craig Gill, (step-children) Dennis, Linda, Michelle; Fiancé, James (Jim) DeWyse; brother, Carl Bell; grandchildren, Colleen, Janelle, Clark, Eric, Nathan, Chelsey, Bryan Jr., Niki, Jeffrey, Jessica, Kenny, Zachary, Alecia, Hayley, Shelby, Lexi, Brooklyn, Kathleen, Ryan, Susan (Carl) Lovet, Sharie (Rob) Delaurier, Sondra, Nick Plemons; great grandchildren, Lainie, Kalyn, Sydney, Hunter, Ella, Grant, Madison, McKenna, Jackson, Felicity, Brianna, Gabriella, Peyton, Jameson, Dominic, Savanna, Harper, Juliana, Carly, Caleb, Lucas, Brendan, Carter, Conner, (Grand Fur Babies) Dallas, Frenchie, Cookie; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Clark David Gill Jr.; 2nd husband, Dick LeMaitre; Son, Neal Kenneth Gill; Sisters, Viola Bell, Doris Meadows.
Her Farewell Bernice's family and friends will gather Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Howell Memorial Chapel in Howell, Michigan. Family and friend will continue a Gathering on Friday, May 16th, from 12:00-8:00 PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home. On Saturday, the gathering will be at 10:00 AM until the time of her Community Farewell Service at 11:00 AM at His Church Anglican, located at 34500 Six Mile Rd., Livonia, Michigan.
