Memorial service for Retired Sgt. Maj. Allen Brewer, 87, of Lawton, OK will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday May 9, 2025 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Brewer passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 in Lawton, OK with his family by his side.
Allen was born on September 26, 1937 in War, West Virginia to Lawrence W. Brewer and Ida Mae (Marrs) Griffin. He joined The United States Army just after his 16th birthday and honorably served for 28 years as an infantry soldier, retiring as a Sergeant Major. Mr. Brewer was fond of saying that he served two tours in Korea, two tours in Vietnam, and two tours in Germany, also serving at many posts in the United States. During his service, he received many awards and medals including the National Defense Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Service Stars, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal Third Award, Expert Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Bronze Star Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantryman Badge, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Air Force Honor Medal Second Class, Four Overseas Service Bars, Army Service Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Sharpshooter (rifle M-16), Overseas Service Ribbon Second Award, and the Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-2. Allen was a great marksman, and particularly enjoyed working with ROTC cadets to teach them rifle, compass, and orienteering skills.
He married Victory Levenia Dangerfield on December 20, 1956 in Lawton and shared 55 years together before her passing in 2012. Together they were blessed with three children. Mr. Brewer enjoyed traveling with his wife to various locations in Europe and the United States. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved nature while driving through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge spotting animals. He was an avid bass fisherman and was on the Oklahoma State fishing team, and went to the national championships. He was also a long time bowler and bowled on many league teams throughout his life. His finest bowling moment was throwing a perfect game at the age of 72.
He is survived by his children, Aleece Justice, and her husband, Raymond, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Karen Reiss, and her husband, Michael, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Loren Brewer, and his wife, Jana, of Cache, Oklahoma; his siblings, Lawrence W. Brewer and his wife, Barbara, Tom Patty and wife, Nancy, George Bandy and wife, Vera, Rhue Jefferson and husband, Ron, and Howard Manley and his wife, Ann; his grandchildren, Ralene and wife, Amber, Joshua and his wife, Erin, Rick and his wife, Chelsea, Diana and her husband, Casey, Melanie and her husband, Brik; his great grandchildren, Tori, Victory, Olivia, Chloe, and Alyssa; and many other loving family members.
Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his siblings, Thelma, Connie, Mattie, Normajean, and Steve; his brothers in law, Delbert and Melvin; and his sisters in law, Chestaleen and Yhovonne.
