We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of a beloved member of our community - Allen Lee Haley of Waltonville, Illinois - a hardworking father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and sports enthusiast. Allen was born on July 8, 1947 to Herman and Geneva Haley (Traughber) in Collinsville, Illinois.
Allen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife and companion of fifty-seven years, Mary Haley of Waltonville; son, Monty Haley and wife, Carol of Nashville, Illinois; son, Scott Haley and wife, Carrie of Waltonville, Illinois; son, Chris Haley and wife, Brittany of Odin, Illinois; grandchildren, Nick, Jake and wife, Emma, Jerrica and husband, AJ Webb, Jaylin and special friend, Reid Deichman, Jaxon, and Claire; and great-grandchildren, Autumn, Olivia, Easton, and another great-grandson on the way.
He is also survived by his sister, Sandra and husband, Grant Cortelloni; brother, Robert Haley; sisters-in-law, Doris Cockrum and Fay Campbell; brother-in-law, David McCowen and wife, Kathie; several nieces and nephews; and honorary pallbearers, Joe Norris, Jim Philp, Wendell Norris, Sandy Frick, Webb Eastham, Paul Pennington, Randy Dees, and Ed Belva.
Allen worked with his dad as a welder after high school. He then went to work in the coal mines, first at Old Ben, and then at Freeman #3 until it closed. He then worked at Truck Centers and Duckett Trucking. He spent many hours volunteering his time to document historical records for the Knob Prairie Cemetery.
A longtime supporter of the Waltonville Spartans, Saint Louis Cardinals, and the Duke Blue Devils, he lived and breathed the spirit of competition, teamwork, and community pride. His dedication went far beyond the stands. He spent many years as an athletic director and coach for Waltonville basketball, baseball, and golf. Allen was instrumental in building the local ball fields. He started the Waltonville Little League program with friends, Larry Hodge and Donna Eastham.
