Allen Kirk, 81, of West Des Moines formerly of Lorimor, died Friday May 16, 2025, at his shop in DeSoto, Ia. Celebration of Life Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday May 23, 2025, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Services will be live streamed. Pastor Bob Gibson will Officiate, The burial will be at the Union Cemetery north of Murray. Full Military Honors will be provided by Theodore J. Martens Creston V.F.W. Post #1797. Open visitation with the family receiving friends will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. In lieu of flowers memorials are to the family to be determined. Online condolences can be left at www.powersfh.com.
Allen Eugene Kirk was born April 18, 1944, in Osceola, Ia. to Wendell Allen Kirk and Maxine Elizabeth (Morrow) Kirk. Allen graduated from East Union Schools in 1962. In 1964 Allen began serving his country as a part of the Army Reserves for six years.
On May 28, 1966, Allen was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Brown in Shannon City at the United Methodist Church. They settled on a farm near Lorimor. Allen was a farmer, in the Lorimor area, all his working years. He started with row crops, and raised cattle and hogs, later he transitioned to more row crops and cattle. Over the years, the cattle changed as well, he began with Hereford cattle and transitioned to Angus over the years.
Allen is survived by, his wife Shirley Kirk of West Des Moines, Ia.; two sons, Nick Kirk of West Des Moines, Ia. and Darrell Kirk of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Noah Kirk of Clarinda, Ia., Clayton Kirk of Ames, Nathan Kirk of Ames, Lexi Kirk of Scottsdale, Ariz. And Trevor Kirk of West Des Moines, Ia.; a sister Donna (husband Robert) Williams of Norwalk, Ia., their children, Shawn (wife Shannon) Williams of Overland Park, Kan., Todd (wife Shelley) Williams of Olathe, Kan. and Jen Johnson of Norwalk, Ia.; a sister-in-law, Alice Austin of Afton and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends
Allen was preceded in death, by his parents.
