Alozy M. Spotanski

September 21, 1933 - July 9, 2025

LOUP CITY – Alozy M. Spotanski, 91, of Loup City, died peacefully, Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Brookefield Park in St. Paul, surrounded by his loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Revs. Richard Piontkowski and Vince Parsons will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church, with a 7 p.m. Vigil Service to follow.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.

Alozy was born Sept. 21, 1933, on a farm north of Ashton, the son of John and Martha (Larchick) Spotanski. He attended Sherman County rural school District 56. After his schooling he farmed with his father and brothers.

He served in the United States Army from Aug. 1956 to Aug. 1958. After he was discharged, he returned to Sherman County to continue farming with his family.

Alozy married the love of his life, Darlene A. Dembowski on April 25, 1962, at Loup City. The couple lived, farmed and raised their seven children in the Ashton area, where he farmed with his brothers. In 1970, he and Darlene bought a farm south of Ashton.

For a number of years, he worked the night shift at Monfort's in Grand Island while he continued to farm. He later worked at Twin Loups Quality Meats in St. Paul for over 10 years. In 2010, he and Darlene retired and moved into Loup City.

Darlene passed away on Dec., 11, 2021, and he continued to live in Loup City, the rest of his life.

He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church.

Family was so very important to Alozy and Sunday was a day not to work. It was a day to share a meal and just get together and enjoy each other's company. Alozy enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, playing cards and gambling at the casinos. He loved polka music and polka dancing with Darlene. He also learned to enjoy Chinese food and his favorite place was Tso's Asian Buffet in Grand Island.

He is survived by his children and spouses, Mark and Teresa Spotanski of Sweetwater, Karen Spotanski of Ashton, Melanie and Tim Jonak of Rockville, Michele and Glen Killion of St. Paul, Mitch and Jodi Spotanski of Loup City, Maria and Mike Curlo of Ashton, and Marti Jo and Lance Heikel of Hazard; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Kwiatkowski of Kearney and Virgie McRoberts of Omaha; sisters-in-law, Kathy Spotanski of Loup City, Marj Spotanski of Loup City and Deanna Kole of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Darlene, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mike Spotanski on March 15, 2020; two sisters and four brothers-in-law, Nellie and Isadore Schachta, Emily and Leonard Lewandowski, Alvin Kwiatkowski and Merlin McRoberts; and four brothers and one sister-in-law, Albin Spotanski, Hubert and Mary Spotanski, Gene Spotanski, and Harry Spotanski.
