Alyssa M. Blais, 26, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 1st, in Portland due to an asthmatic attack.
Alyssa was born in Biddeford, Maine, on August 24th, 1998, the beloved daughter of Michael and Ann (Doyon) Blais.
She grew up in Biddeford with her brother, Gage, and graduated from Biddeford High School in 2016. After high school, Alyssa attended the University of Southern Maine, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2021.
Alyssa worked as an oncology nurse at MaineHealth Surgical Care in Portland. She previously served as a psychiatric nurse at MaineHealth Behavioral Health at Spring Harbor in Westbrook. She was known for her compassion, dedication, and calm presence-qualities that made her deeply connected and capable of giving her patients the best care imaginable. She even strived as far as to buy toys for the children in her unit at spring harbor during the holiday season, and read to these children before sleep. Alyssa truly poured her heart and soul into everything she did. Work related and outside life alike.
On November 15th, 2022, Alyssa met the love of her life, Bailey. Just two weeks later, she asked her mom, "Do you believe in love at first sight?" Her mother, supportive and understanding, encouraged her to follow her heart. One thing Alyssa always cherished was how Bailey's favorite three words were "I love you, my special girl." Alyssa and Bailey became engaged on February 13, 2025, in the Florida Keys-a moment of joy and hope that marked the beginning of their future together.
Alyssa was also a gifted artist. Through her business, BlaisArtistry, she created dreamy home décor, suncatchers, and wearable art inspired by nature. Her work was featured in local shops including Moon Lady Plants in Biddeford and Pink Crow Collective in Waterville, and she often participated in community art shows. Her creativity brought beauty into the lives of many.
Nature was Alyssa's sanctuary. She loved animals-especially bullfrogs and toads-and was lovingly known as an expert bullfrog catcher. Music was another passion; she loved to sing and was especially fond of SZA, Post Malone and country music.
Alyssa's radiant smile, bubbly soul, and infectious laughter lit up every room she entered. She had a unique gift for making others feel seen, loved, and cared for. Her warmth will be missed by everyone lucky enough to have known her.
Alyssa's final act of love came after her passing-through the New England Donor Program, she gave the gift of life to others, already saving two lives.
She is survived by her parents, Michael and Ann Blais; her brother, Gage Blais, and his partner, Hannah Fox; her fiancé, Bailey Pickel; her two cherished cats, Boopy and Griffin; as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Maine Medical Center for the care and support they gave her.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, July 15th, at St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford.
