La misa funeral de Ángel Nava, de 37 años y residente de Athens, está programada para el miércoles 16 de julio de 2025 a las 12:00 p. m. en la Capilla SEEM de la Iglesia Católica de San Eduardo, oficiada por el Padre Nolan Lowry. El entierro se realizará a continuación en el Cementerio de Athens, a cargo de la Funeraria Hannigan Smith.
El Sr. Nava falleció el 10 de julio de 2025 en Houston.
Ángel Edgardo Nava nació el 23 de mayo de 1988 en Guadalajara, Jalisco, México, hijo de José Ángel Nava y Sandra Durán. Se graduó de Athens High School y asistió a Trinity Valley Community College, donde jugó como pateador en el equipo de fútbol americano tanto en la preparatoria como en la universidad. Además, Ángel fue pateador del equipo de fútbol americano semiprofesional Extreme. Trabajaba por cuenta propia, trabajando en concreto, y era miembro de la Iglesia Católica de San Eduardo. Ángel era un ávido aficionado a los deportes, con una pasión particular por el fútbol y el fútbol americano. Incluso arbitraba partidos de fútbol en la escuela secundaria y en partidos recreativos. Le sobreviven sus padres, José Nava y Sandra Durán, de Athens; su hermana, Jennifer García, y su esposo Aron, de Athens; su abuela materna, Pascuala Durán, de Athens; personas especiales, Ray Wydrinski y Ana Chapman-Wydrinski; y numerosos tíos, tías y primos.
El velatorio se llevará a cabo el martes 15 de julio de 2025, de 5:00 a 7:00 p.m., en la Funeraria Hannigan Smith, con un rosario a partir de las 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass for Angel Nava, 37, of Athens, is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the St. Edward's Catholic Church SEEM Chapel, with Father Nolan Lowry officiating. Interment will follow at Athens Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Nava passed away on July 10, 2025, in Houston.
Angel Edgardo Nava was born on May 23, 1988, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, to José Angel Nava and Sandra Durán. He graduated from Athens High School and attended Trinity Valley Community College, where he played as a kicker on the football team in both high school and college. Additionally, Angel was the kicker for the Extreme semi-professional football team. He was self-employed, working in concrete, and he was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church. Angel was an avid sports fan, with a particular passion for soccer and football; he even refereed high school and recreational soccer games. He owned a horse that he raced and enjoyed traveling, spending time with family-especially his grandparents-playing cards, going to the casino, and cooking discada outside on his flat grill.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Juan Nava and Hermelinda Barrios and by his maternal grandfather, Jesus Duran.
Survivors include his parents, Jose Nava and Sandra Duran of Athens; his sister, Jennifer Garcia and husband Aron of Athens; his maternal grandmother, Pascuala Duran of Athens; bonus grandparents, Ray Wydrinski and Ana Chapman-Wydrinski; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
