Angela Avila Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Angela, on June 8, 2025, at the age of 55, in Slidell, La, after suffering and succumbing to cancer. Angela will be cremated and interred at St Edwards Catholic Cemetery in Afton, IA.
Angela is survived by her two beautiful children Sarah Avila of Afton, IA and her son Sean Spondre Schmitz of Des Moines, IA; her granddaughter Emma Vandel of Afton, IA; her father Terry Schmitz of San Diego, CA; her siblings Christopher Schmitz of Mankato, MN, Theresa Lujano of San Diego, CA and Christine LaCoste (Ray) of Slidell, LA.
Angela was preceded in death by her mother Alice Schmitz; her sister Maryalice Schmitz; her nieces Elizabeth (Minnie) Lujano and Christiana Herrera; her maternal grandparents Margaret Robert Hartman; her paternal grandparents Lucille and Godfrey Pommier; her uncles Gary Schmitz, Fr Richard Pommier and Joseph Kuehn; her great friend Janice Hill.
Angela brought joy and laughter to those she met with her kind heart and sweet smile. She will be deeply missed. There will be a prayer rosary prior to the service at the St. Edward's Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. August 8, 2025, followed by Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. Burial will be in St. Edward's Catholic Cemetery near Afton, followed by a light lunch in the church basement. Memorials can be directed to the family.
