Ann Sirles Obituary

Ann Travis Sirles died peacefully on June 4, 2025 after a short illness.
She is now in the presence of the Lord. Ann was born in Lima, Peru on
March 26, 1934 to Cliff and Mabel Travis. Her family moved back to the
United States when she was 12. She met and married Aden Sirles in
Angola, IN in 1952. She was a wife, mother and homemaker until the age
of 33 when she decided to follow her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1971, her Master of
Science in Nursing in 1972 and her Doctor of Science in Nursing in 1985
at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was also one of the
first Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNP) in the state of
Alabama having qualified as both a Pediatric CRNP and a Family
Practice CRNP. She worked tirelessly with the state legislature to
increase the scope of practice for nurse practitioners in Alabama. Ann
taught at the UAB School of Nursing for 23 years. She was loved and
admired by both her colleagues and her students. She never stopped
learning or encouraging others. Ann was currently mentoring a young
woman, who had earned her PhD in nursing, and advising her on her
career path.
She was an active member of Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church
and Oakmont Chapel Presbyterian Church in Hoover AL where she
served in too many roles to list here.

Ann is survived by her daughter Neda Tucker (Northport, AL) and sonin-law, Steve Tucker; her grandson, Travis Tucker (Madison AL) and his
wife, Sunita Jagani; two precious great grandsons, Rohan Tucker and
Arjun Tucker; and a brother, Cliff Travis (Bloomington IN). She was
predeceased by her parents and her husband of 68 years, Aden.
There will be a Memorial Worship Service at Oakmont Chapel
Presbyterian Church on Saturday June 21 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation
one hour prior to the service.
